Don't get to the forum that often, but haven't seen any comment on the '60 Pontiac Bonneville kit by trumpeter, so thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth ! This kit hasn't been produced since the original AMT annual, so I waited and waited for it to come out. Finally they arrived at the hobby shop, only to discover all the chrome was dull and cloudy. After a while, replacement chrome trees became available, so I bought one. Just started working on it the other day, and if I had looked more closely before the purchase, I never would have bought it ! Yeah, it's got nice features like separate chrome trim and opening trunk, but the aluminium wheels are way too shallow and lacking detail. The engine is just plumb pitiful !! The valve covers are just plain wrong, the 4bbl manifold is ridiculous, and the hydra-matic transmission ain't even close ! If you have the AMT '65 Bonneville or Gran Prix, those aluminium wheels can be used with a little modification. Even the "hole in the block" '65 engine looks better than the '60, although a better choice is the '62 Catalina. Oh yeah, did I mention the tires ?? Gee, I don't remember having radial tires in 1960 !! In summation, I think Trumpeter should stick to aircraft and ships, at which they do a much better job !
