The one thing you might want to try, is Tamiya's rubbing compount. It takes out small irregularites like nothing else I've come across. Gives a very nice shine to boot! It will sneak into panel lines, etc. So be prepared to clean it out.
But I would guess a longer rubbing would get rid of some of your problem. Take note: it IS abbrasive, even if mild. So raised areas will be worn out till no paint remains if you carry on too long. Ask somebody who's screwed up a perfectly good-looking bike petrol tank by wanting to get it "just a bit more shiny"....
