1966 Ford Fairlane GT Pics....Be Gentle
Posted by rodc on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 7:32 AM
This is my first automobile model - I usually only build aircraft and ships - but was done for a buddy of mine who is a major Fairlaine lover.

The kit is from AMT and was built straight OOTB. I took some liberties with the paint job. Engine compartment was handpainted as was all accents. Body finish was with Model Master rattle can. I just have to add a coat of Future and off she goes to my buddy.

Please be gentleClown [:o)].

HEY,
First, id like to say welcome to the auto world. Are you planning to do more autos? This one looks great!, especially for a first auto. And just think, the more you do the more stuff youll want to do to them. Nice build anyway. What color is that? Its nice, not to bright but it stands out.

Randy,

Thanks for the comments. The color was Model Master Metallic Red (if memory serves correct.....I'm currently at work and can't check the can). I do have a 78 Corvette Indianapolis 500 pace car from Revell-Monogram (one of my own dream autos), that I plan to finish in a bright lemon yellow and not as the pace car.

Hey, Rod.
The Fairlane looks great to me - I wish my first car had looked that good!
Go on - build more cars - it's good for you.

Cheers, LeeTree

HEY,
Id do it just to protect it, but u agree, i dont think it would make much of a difference in shinyness, hes done that pretty well.

Thanks for the kind words guys....I was a little worried that it would not be up to spec as a showpiece at my buddy's house....I guess I was wrong. I have another auto to build as I mentioned in an earlier the post....the 78' vette....can't wait to start it.

I achieved my finish with a careful coat of Testors grey enamel primer (#1237) and then finished with three thin coats of Testor's Model Master Metallic Kiln Red (#2904). The color is actually a reddish brown and not a red at all. Also note that the primer and the finish red was sprayed from rattle cans.......I am still trying to convince myself I need the $290 Badger airbrush I have been drooling over.

Once again thanks.....and I'll be sure to post the Vette when I get it built.

She looks awesome! That's the kit that got me back into the hobby, and you did a far better job on her than I did. I am in the process of rebuilding her. Way to go!

Wish my first, second tenth auto build looked as that. I am sure your buddy will be happy.
Might I add one suggestion though. After you put the Future on, possibly add some washes in the panel lines to bring out the doors and trunk.

to tell you the truth, you probably dont need that good of an airbrush if youll just be doing single color paint schems. ive seen guys produce museum quality models at shows with a 40$ airbrush.

I will also add my congratulations and say its looks a fine build to me. Keep going and before long you'll introduce yourself as an auto modeller who occassions dabbles in ships and aircraft not the other way around.
