I am working on a Chevy Silverado, and i would like to know if anyone else has done this awesome truck, and if you may have any pictures so I can get some ideas on how to customize it and paint it.

HEY,
Ive never built this kit but i would say for the paint job, make sure it is a color you will like or else it will look bad to everyone else too cuz you wont care as much about how it turns out. Just my My 2 cents [2c].

Hey Randy, thanks for info. Very true it is what you say. I'm thinkin' about lowering it a little, and making it completely black. Not sure exactly how I'm going to lower it, but I may do it by chopping about 1/3 inch off the suspension and all the little things that are holding onto the wheel, so it will look nice also, and not just have the tire glued to the top of the wheel well. i've seen that done before and it doesn't look good at all.

i'm not doing the silverado but I am doing the 1996 Chevy Taho. [Yeah it's the snap kit but it's the only kit of it's type you can buy.] Mine is all black and I have printed up some "government" type license plates for it. I was basicly building tho look like thos armored SUVs government officials ride in. One of those Harisson Ford/Tom Clancy movies inspired it. He is riding in a convoy of them when they get ambushed.
There is an expedition out too now [molded in yellow with flames, ewww]. I plan to get it as well but paint it a solid color.

Gotta love those snap kits....I agree with you about the flames, I do not really like SUV's with flames on it, it just don't look good at all. Good luck with the Tahoe, I wanna see some finished pictures on it.

HEY,
I have to say that any kind of flame can look bad on the wrong car. Old hot rods are always nice with flames. My neighbor has a 03 monte carlo silver with really faded purple-blue flames on the front and it looks nice, but if you switched the flames around, it would look wrong.

I have to agree with you on that. Hot rods look great with flames, so does the occasional big rig. By the way, do they make big rig models? I haven't seen any....

Funny you should mention big rig models. They make them [and they cost at least twice as much as a car and sometines the trailers even more!]. I don't know if you have a closeout store called "Big Lots" [aka Odd Lots in some areas] but my local one has two diff semis, a dump truck, and a flat bed trailer [sold seperately] all for $12.99 each which is a steal if if you are into semis! The flat bed comes with what looks like about 3 high voltage capacitors as the cargo.
I don't recall what type of semis they were but I believe one was a Freightliner and the second was the old tilt-cab type. There is also a toy closeout store called Toy Liqudators [somehow connected with Kay Bee and Big Lots] that often sells the same kits and die-cast vehicles found in the other two stores.

I went to two Big Lots in Buffalo, N.Y. on the weekend, but they had NOTHING. They're kinda junky, but I guess if you pop in regularly you may come across a good deal. I remember a few years back WalMart was selling the Ford Louisville Coke Shorthauler for $4.97, along with AMT car kits. Haven't seen a deal like that for a while. Good luck on youe Silverado, my neighbour has a 1:1 so I get to ogle it daily. I might paint up a diecast for him someday, maybe you'll inspire me if you'll kindly post some progress pics.

That's the funny thing about biglots. I have two in my area and two out side of town and they always differnt merchandise. Last year they were selling the 4 AMT car kit value packs for either $9.99 or $12.99. I picked one set which contained, a Catalina, a drag nova, an old Chevy stepside pick-up, and a third kit I cannot recall at the moment...
They don't often get models but when they do they are pretty cheap. They also have a few die-cast kits on the shelves at my local BL too but none I'm interested in...
