water stains on windsheild

Well, it would be possible to paint a very thin line of light grey, to simulate it. Not sure if it will work, but, it's worth a try.

for armor cars i get a large piece of low tack paint, and cut it out so where it is in the shape of the path of whiper blade. stick it on the windshield where the whiper would touch and mist a light grey on the rest of the windshield.. i hope you understood that but that is different then what your asking i think.... oh well theres another way to represent whiper weathering.

thanks for the quick input guys, but i dont have an airbrush and i think painting the gray line would be too solid of a line.

This might help. I've gotten good results for making slightly dirty windshields. I've sprayed clear gloss without mixing the can. It comes out thick and adds some distortion. The look could be similar to driving though dirty rain, but it's not too dirty. It also workes on beaters. I recomend testing because every unmixed can is different. As far as the wiper lines go, juniormodeler has a point. But to get the sofer line, cut out a template and spray from a quarter inch above the windshield (instead of putting the template ON the glass). Hope this helps.

when my airbrush was out of commission, i tried a technique similar to the masking/airbrush technique above, using thinned water color over a Futured windshield.
was heavier than what you were looking for, as i was doing a filthy desert vehicle,
but if you went thinner, and a lighter application, it might work.
nice thing abt watercolors is they won't stick to the future too hard.
so if it comes out badly, you should be able to wipe it clear.

Hmmm... Without an airbrush you can mask off the part of the winshield you want to be clear take a cloth or a paint brush that is damp with paint thinner and lightly rub/paint on the thinner... Wipe off excess with paper towel... BECAREFUL not to get the thinner on the back of the windshield, and always practise on a spare if you can.. The thinner should etch the glass and make it look like like you want it... Hmmm.. I wonder if also maybe a flat clear coat will work as well.... Again BECAREFUL afterwards because the windshield may become brittle. You definitely don't want to "soak" it... you just want enough to bring the "glare of the release" off of the windshield....

dubix, try this: tape off where you want the clear windshield like rusty said, and then LIGHTLY (and I mean LIGHTLY) dullcoat the rest. In fact, if you can hold the paint can far enough away, and BARELY spray it, you can get the can to sorta "spit"...that way it really looks realistic.

Take the car outside, throw a handfull of dirt on the window, take the windshield wiper, or something similar to the size, and clear the area where the windshiled would have wiped. I dont know if this would work, ive never used the stuff, but maybe spray some clear coat over the window after you dirty it up? I duno.

I did it last night. What i ended up dping was masking pff the shape of the wipers, then ging over the rest with a peice of toilet paper dabbed in enamel thinner. I went over it a few times and it came out exactly as i wanted. The rear wiper wasnt the best, but that was my fault.lol One tip to you guys, watch out for cutting the part when you cutting the mask. Ya i there are a bunch of scratches now, but you cant tell with the contrast between the clear and fogged area. It looks good. You guys should try it on a spare and see how you like it.

dubix, a little trick you might want to try next time is to take your spare and make a stencil from paper.. then you don't ever have to put an exacto blade to a windshield again.. just put the stencil over your mask and cut to the paper.. Glad it worked out for you though other than that....
