Willys Gasser kit, etc.
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, August 5, 2004 11:35 AM
Since I normally reside on the a/c side, when I post here I always feel like the guy who's been invited to a party where he doesn't know a living soul. It's uncomfortable. But, to the point, I'm trying to find out if anyone still carries the molds to the old Revell '41 (?) Willys Coupe Gasser. I built several when I was a kid and I wonder if it holds up by modern standards. The other one I'd like to find is certainly dated, but an interesting kit nonetheless. It was a two-kits-in-one-box deal featuring a very early dragster back in the days they were referred to as "rail jobs." Which was funny in this case because the wheel base didn't seem to be much longer than the average Cadillac of the period. The other kit in the box was a gasser based on an old Fiat body and frame. These ancient Fiats were popular with drag racers back in the day. I suppose because they were light and lent themselves well to major modification. Also, I'm looking for the old Little Red Wagon by, I think, IMC, or their Ford GT. Oh, and one more: Does anyone remember AMT's "Futura", a concept-car model with the patented 1960s bubble top and, I seem to recall, an aircraft control stick instead of a steering wheel, which is actually a step back to 1900. The kit came with a rotating stand, which involved a set of tiny ball bearings and some kind of thick gel that went inside the stand, theoretically making it rotate very slowly for minutes at a time. As you can easily imagine, I did not work as advertised.
Had no luck with these kits on E-Bay, but I'm wondering if any of these kits are currently being produced under different banners. I saw the Willys at a show, but I don't know if it was a new kit. Thanks, automobile guys. You've always been more than helpful.

The 'Little Red Wagon' was reissued by Lindberg a few years ago and shouldn't be difficult to find.
The 'Futura' was reissued but will be difficult to find. Here is a listing for it, but it's currently sold out.
