                        As I feel it's almost become my mission in this forum, I will once again post the question as to anyone hearing ANY info on a Tamiya YZR-M1? I've been off-line for a while during a move to the great state of Texas, so please forgive me if I've missed the boat on this one. Gawd, I can't wait for this thing, maybe in time for Christmas? Anybody got an idea?

                        OK, since it seems like I'm twiddling my thumbs for now, has anybody built Rossi's '03 Valencia bike yet? Just wondering what those crazy decals are like, and how hard it is to match that flourescent yellow on the tank and tail. Also, I'm looking seriously at the Telefonica Movistar RC211V, and am thinking about using Testors Olds Engine Blue as the primary color. At least as a starting point since it looks pretty close. Any thoughts?

                        May I ask why you don't go for the Telefonica blue from Tamyia, they specially made the paint for this model...

                        I have not built that one yet, but I will eventually. I did do 3 of the previous version and 2 Telefonica Moviestar bikes. For the color, go with the Tamiya color.

The first Tamiya bike I built was the #19 Tech 3 Yamaha of Olivier Jacque, and I tried to use the recommended Tamiya spray with very frustrating results. I'd much rather airbrush if I could. Is it possible to spray the Tamiya paint directly into a jar and then airbrush it as is? Or is some thinning required? I've never tried it, but am willing to give it a shot if the color is right, which it seems to be.

                        I often do that, just hold a jar directly in front of the muzzle and spray till you have anough paint. You don't need thinner, you will see that the paint is already very thin when it comes in the jar.

                        Tanks for the tip, I'll give it a try and let you all know how it goes. Also post some pics when I can of my other bikes. Also, I've heard nothing but bad about Heller's YZR-M1, but since it's the only game in town, it might make it onto my table. Any ideas on how to update it (it's an '02 model, I think) to an '04? And has anyone actually built this kit? If so, what's so bad about it?

                        Also hold a towel over the jar to catch any spurts and also let the paint warm to room temperature before using.

                        Regarding emptying a spray can into a jar....there may be some residual propellant in the paint, so if you seal the jar right away, the paint may foam up. I spray into a large Paasche jar, put the cap on. The Paasche cap has the air hole, so the propellant can escape through that, as well as the feed tube.

                        i read in tamiya model magazine a two years or so ago that its actually a good idea to let the paint sit for up to half an hour to allow dissapation of the propellant.

                        No, missed the exhaust... The tobacco decals are more important, anyways. Though I miiight be tempted to hold the original decals for sentiment sake and build a SA GP version - first one, local GP and all that... Will think about it - the Gooo!!!!! just doesn't do it for me. But at least in this day and age, it's something. I get so frustrated at the guys nowadays doing nothing with non-tobacco sponsorships.

                        But hey, that was an emotional day...

                        Well, it's ordered. Went to HLJ's website and fumbled my way through their ordering page, and I THINK there will be a YZR-M1 on it's way to me sometime in November. I try not to be a moron at most times, but I had a heck of a time getting that web page to accept my city on the order form. I finally had to abbreviate it to three letters. Anybody else have experience with Hobby Link? How long after the release do you think to the US? In the meanwhile...how 'bout it Studio 27! Some tobacco logos, I mean!

                        Didn't order mine yet, as I'm still contemplating the decal issue... And if I want to go for the non-SA version, I'll rather wait and order all at once.

                        Anyways, I ordered heaps of stuff from them - it mostly works out cheaper than buying them locally! Never had a problem. I usually ask for a SAL shipment and that usually takes about 3 weeks from shipping (you'll get an email) till it is here. And I presume going to the US will be very much faster than getting it to SA! You can track the status (till shipment) of the order on their page as well. Very nice site in that everything gets confirmed.
