Engine Colour
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, April 26, 2003 11:13 PM
Greetings,
1. I am working on a 1970 Chevy. What colour should the engine block be?
2. After I apply the BARE METAL FOIL to the side molding and trim it, what is the best way to paint the inside black strip between the chrome moldings?
3. I have had bad luck keeping the paint on the vynal tires, like when I paint white walls. What do I need to do to correct this?
4. The wheel rim is completly chromed, I want to leave the hubcap chrome, how do I remove the chrome that I do not want?
Thank you very much for your time.

The engine should be chevy engine orange. Testors makes this in bottles, you'll have to airbrush it. Use a very fine brush, 000 or finer to do the black you are talking about, and for the tires, enamel paint will never dry use acrylic white, or if you are doing letterrs, I use a white gel pen, Shabo also had dry transfers that should work, and the hubcap issue, I would paint the whole rim, and use foil on the hubcap. Hope this all helps.

ENGINE BLOCK SHOULD BE EITHER RED OR A GLOSS ORANGE TRY MASKING TAPE TO BLOCK OFF THE AREA YOU DONT WANT PAINTED THEN AFTER YOU PAINT THAT AREA THE FOIL IT . THE TIRES CLEAN THE TIRES REAL GOOD AS THE DO COLLECT OIL AND TRY AN A CRYLIC PAINT ON THEM AS FOR THE CHROME PROBLEM SIMPLE GREEN WILL TAKE OFF CHROME PAINTED PARTS THEN JUST PAINT THE RIMS ETC THE WAY YOU WANT MAKE SURE YOU WASH AND RINSE THEM GOOD AFTER YOU STRIP THEM

Thanks Midnightprowler and DEANO,
DEANO, you said two use "SIMPLE GREEN", what is this stuff and where can I get it? The wheels are ALL chrome, so I only want to remove the chrome on the rim and leave the hubcap alone. In your opinions, should I do just the simple engine or should I do cable wires etc. My skill level is between one and two, more like 13/4. Thanks again. Dlanor

You can get simple green at walmat, kmart, etc, even cub or rainbow. I would strip the wheels, paint them, and foil the hubcaps, and maybe just start with simple spark plug wires and fuel lines, and go from there as you feel more confident in your skills.
