Most craft stores are full of different thicknesses of lines and cords that can be used---look in the beading section, which seems to have more useful stuff than the sewing section. I use elastic cording which comes in a chrome silver color, but painted up and drybrushed it looks great for hoses, oil lines, etc. Good luck.

I've seen a braided electrical "shielding" or insulation - it's a braided hose that goes around wires as insulation.
Find a store that sells electronic components - not like Radio Shack - but a real live electronics supply place - that sells diodes, resistors, capacitors and switches - they'll have different sized insulation, and dont forget to have a look at their micro wires - I've found packets of colored pre-cut and pre stripped (the ends of the wire have 1/4" of the plastic insulation removed) wire - perfect for distributors and cables - I've found yellow, green, black, red, blue and white.
Good luck.

tominator;

Check the Kalmbach series of detailing books. The one book detailing scale model cars has the dimensions for various hose and wiring in various scales and gives the appropriate size of wire or material that can be used to make these yourself.

Detail Master makes the stuff too (0.02" - 0.1") along with very nice machined aluminimum fittings as well. Check out www.scaledreams.com and click on the Detail Masters link
