Car Window question??
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, October 16, 2004 9:02 PM
Hi.

I was "commisioned" by my Wife to build a "Love Wagon"(Toyota Hiace Wagon).
Now I seldom stray into the area of 4-wheeled civilian vehicles and was wondering what is the best method to do the black trim on the window panes.

Any good techniques, tips would be appreciated. The thing has PLENTY of Windows 3 in the roof alone. Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]

Last Hiace I build was a custom van with most of the windows sealed up.

Any help/input appreciated.

i usually just get some tamiya tape and mask off the body after i paint it, then spray the area under the windows, or, if the window already has the outlined raised spray the window.

The area I talking about is on the clear parts and should be painted semi-gloss black, they are indicated on the clear parts by a semi-frosted look(NO raised areas).

Since the Car will be PINK(2nd pink car for me 1st was the Pink Panther Car) I would like to paint them prior to installing the window in the Car.

No mask patterns as with some of the newer Tamiya Kits are supplied.Sad [:(]Sad [:(]

You could always use strips of electrical tape. It has the black rubbery look to it already. Just cut and stick.

I use the Tamiya masking tape to mark out the area not to be painted on both sides of the "glass'. Spraying the semi gloss will give a nice outline around that frosted area.

Both Tamiya and Testors make paint markers that are good for making straight lines without masking. Usually, on 1:1 cars the black is on the inside of the glass, so it's pretty shiny. I'd do the same with the marking pen.

Thanks, for all the suggestions.

Will see what will work with the Kit as most of the windows are installed from the outside.
