Project: Knight Rodder completed!
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 24, 2004 9:56 AM
I thought i'd share my latest creation with the forum that was completed in early October. It was a 5 month project that consists of a modified "Aluma Coupe" kit. While it may appear like it was built straight from the box, it is far from it. I added a Cylon Knight Rider circuit to replace the tailight bar. I also added working headlights through fiber optics. This was one of my most challenging builds to date. It took over a month just to create a circuit that would fit down inside the body and still be able to perform the way I needed it to. I am very pleased with the finished product. It turned out exactly the way I pictured it in my head months before I actually started building. There were a few things (like any project we build) that didn't go exactly as I had planned. First, I had originally wanted three fiber strands to go to each headlight. Unfortunatly, there was a very tight "Bend" that the strands had to make fit inside the bucket. For this reason, only one strand per bucket was accomplished. This, in turn, made for a headlight that wasn't as brightly lit as I had hoped for. They are still noticable in a regular lit room. The second problem was trying to somehow save the interior tub. Unfortunatly, with the battery and circuit, that made for little room where it could be hidden. So I had to ace the interior. I had then focused on plenty of exterior details (fuel cell compartment, engine bay, four wheel disc brakes, etc). Click the link below and all comments are always welcome. Sorry for the long post, just providing some background into the project. Thanks in advance!

Great model and an interesting concept. I remember seeing this over at Scale Auto. I love the wheels, are they from the kit? Thanks for sharing.

Actually, those wheels are from a diecast Kalifornia Kicks Chezoom. I had originally ordered some machined aluminum conversions for the car but I thought that these looked much better.
