Crankcase is gunmetal or wrinkle black depending on the model, pushrod tubes chrome. fins are also dependent on model or owner customizing. Pipes are almost always chrome. Blasted engine can be done with badger abrasive gun and flat aluminum.

Harley Davidson Question!
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, November 22, 2004 12:33 AM
Got a question for the Harley Fans and Riders on here.

I have multiple kits of different harleys and there seem to be difference in how the engines are painted.

Crank below the cylinders seems to be either black or gun-metal, same for the inside of the cover that goes to the drive sprocket, headers seem to be black in the lower section and metallic grey on the upper sections(end of fins either polished or not.

Also what is the colour of the push rod cover attachments on the crank cover, seen them as either chrome/aluminum or black.

Question is specific for the engines of the FLH Classic and the Electra Glide, but I also got models of other Harleys and would appreciate if anybody can tell me if the colors were consistent across engine types.

Last but not least:
Anybody know how to reproduce as and-blasted engine??

I know that many harleys are customised and thus the colors should not matter, but I would like to get a feel for the factory supplied look.

Thanks in advance for any replies.
