Tamiya or Revell of Germany New Beetle?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 1:34 PM
Hi all,

I am new to posting on the forum but have been getting great info from it for a while now. I am going to build a 1/24 new beetle for my daughter and was wondering if anyone had any comments comparing the Revell of Germany kit to the Tamiya kit. Based on other things I have rad I assume the Tamiya kit is preferred but I thought I would ask the experts.

Thanks for any advice and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I haven't built either of those kits, but if the Revell-Beetle is anything like their New MiniCooper, I would say go for Tamiya.
Don't get me wrong, their MiniCooper isn't bad, but it's rude.

I can't speak for the Revell of Germany kit (I haven't seen it) but I've put together a few of the Tamiya kits. It goes together pretty well, and is accurate compared to my wife's full-size example. The trickiest part will be painting the black window trim and installing the glass in the body shell. It takes a little fiddling, but looks great when it's done. Otherwise, the kit is everything you'd expect from Tamiya -- great fit and detail, etc.
