AMT/ERTL 1966 Ford Mustang
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, November 29, 2004 4:25 PM
Hello all,

This will be the closest that I will ever come to owning a '66 Mustang. I am wanting to paint the body in what appears to be (on the box top) teal. The teal that I found at my LHS looks to be too dark so I was wondering about what to use to lighten it. I had thought about adding some white but then thought that would mess up the metallic appearance of the paint and then thought about using aluminum to lighten the teal. Any suggestions? I will be airbrushing the body color. This is only my third car model and although I love building aircraft these classic car kits are addicting!Big Smile [:D]

Any help is appreciated,
Steve

If you already have the white and silver paint, mix a little and try it on a scrap part. If you have to buy more paint, I would find another teal paint or another color you like. Something else to watch out for is if the plastic is at all translucent, if you paint black on the inside of the hood, it can change the tone of the outside. I primer the body parts to prevent that.

If you put a white or silver base coat under the Teal,it will lighten up the Teal color.Even a gold basecoat can make a huge difference.Good luck.
