1/12 Detail Kits, FW14B.
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, November 29, 2004 9:59 PM
Boy, do I need HELP!Question [?]
I am getting bogged down in details on this Tamiya 1/12 FW14B kit.
So far I have dropped about $2,000.00 (cdn) on this project. that covers everything, workstation, paint, equipment, detail items (a truly scary bunch) and whatever else seemed necessary. And it's not over yet!
The only thing that I can not locate is a detail kit in 1/12 scale for this FW14B Williams.
I know that Cody Grayland made one a few years back (5 or 6), but I need to access one NOW!
If anybody knows where I can locate one of these kits, please let me know.
I have tried to locate one on 'Ebay' with no success, so here I am, hoping to find a positive response.
As you may have guessed, this is going to be a labor of love, I plan on making "Sir Frank" proud.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks, John.

Hoy Garbage!
Nope, nothing on the quest so far.
Best I've been able to find is the possibility that "Perfect Parts" MAY do one sometime in the future.
As to a date, your guess is as good as mine.
I've already put a bug in the ear of the 'powers that be' to get there feces correlated! (S*#t Toghether).
Now it's just a mater of patience, which is really hard when you are in the middle of a build, right?
If you stumble across anything, please let me know! I'll do the same.
Catch you later, John.

Drop a note to the folks at F1specialties.com. They don't have a detail set listed, but they might know where to get one.

Also, post up your request on the forums over at http://www.f1m.com/ Lots of F1 modelers there, someone might have one laying around. I'm in the middle of the same kit, although I'm not going as crazy as you ware with the details, I did get the aftermarket decals for it.

Next F1 project is the F2002 Ferrari in 1/12 from RoG...

Jeff,

Keep us posted on your F2002! I'm still busy with a few other things and mine will have to be happy in the box for another few months... When are you going to get started?

As for the FW14B: the closest I could come to finding a detail kit, was the PP brake set, which you can use on all 3 the kits of that era (F 641/2, MP4/6 and FW14B). Happy hunting!

SeaBee, I haven't decided when to start the F2002, maybe it could be a small group build...drop me a line when you're ready to go and we'll keep the masses informed of our progress...

I will be repainting mine btw, as I'm not overly happy with the quality of the paint on my kit. As for aftermarket, there were a couple of Rosso sets available for it, but they're very pricey, and I'm thinking I might want to keep it covered up anyway.

Another problem for me is to get Tamiya-kits in a reasonable price. I live in the Netherlands, so shipping costs are my big problem. Tamiya kits 1/12 are hard to find in Holland, so shipping is almost the only way for me.
I'm looking for Tamiya's Ferrari 641/2 (1/12), and Mclaren MP 4/6 (1/12), maybe someone here can help me out :)

Tamiya 1/12 F1 kit cost about US$130 to US$160 here in Malaysia and quite easy to get one. No idea about the shipping cost. size of the box is a real problem.

Garbage, I don't know about other possible sites, but I got my Mp4/6 from hlj.com Shipping included it was cheaper than local! And that's shipping to South Africa... I know some of those weren't in stock last time I checked, but it's a good place to check out, anyways...

Jeff, my F2002 is still miles off. Currently doing the 1:12 641/2 (box), as well as a RC211V and a WRC Focus. Soon as the 641/2 is finnished, I'll most likely start on the F2002. Just at the point where I should start the exhausts. But now first I have to de-chrome them. Fun-fun-fun! Having just moved, there's a lot of stuff to do around the house during the evenings. But I'll get there...

Maybe we should do a 1/12th F1 GB sometime - maybe the impetus some of us need to start or complete one?

Impetus... Now there's a novel idea! Exactly what is needed here. Because I'm allways fiddling with a few other kits inbetween, I leave my 1:12 F1 alone for ages (by accident) sometimes. So I am well over two years in building this thing - and it's as OTB as it can get! And yes, merrily buggering up along the way, that's me... Taking my time just means carefully buggering up! Wink [;)]

So, even though I'd love to join that one, I don't think I'll finish on time! Unless it's an informal and open-ended (at this stage) one like the RC211V GB.

Posted this site in Johns other thread regarding tires.

http://www.antaresmodels.com/cars.htm

They have a few other detail items listed also.

I have the Revell AG 2002 kit also but I don't know when I'll ever get to it. Have to clear my bench of a few Luftwaffe things first.

Hope this helps,

stinger

Though not specifically for your FW14B, this site has some more 1/12 accessories:

Hey Stinger:
Thanks for the lead to MediaMix, I found lots of treasure, and drained my bank account accordingly. I'm still fishing for rain tires for my Williams though.
NOTE TO ALL: Scalemotorsport is taking orders for a Super Detail Kit for the Ferrari 2002, if you don't mind dropping about $200.00 (US), scamper over there and join the line! Also, they are taking orders for Andy Mathews book on the FW14B. Out in January sometime, and probably well worth it if you have this kit in mind.

Hey John, glad you found that site "worth(?)while" Wink [;)]. Thanks for the headsup on Scalemotorsport. Do you have a direct link you could post for them (as if I had the money, eh?)

Stinger, problem with that site is that once you start digging, you don't stop! It's a complete budget-breaker; they've got real nice stuff!

BTW, slightly (but not by much) off topic: Ron from racing miniatures just let know that he'll be getting supply of Perfect Parts Ferrari detail sets, with a propable restock on the brake sets later the month. Few other gooddies as well.

Another site well worth looking at...
