Best Window Glue?
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, December 20, 2004 11:03 PM
I've had mixed results with Testors Clear Parts Cement. And nothing else I've tried works as good as that. I had a great fairing for a motorcycle recently that I was afraid to mess up so I used a thin strip of double-sided tape to hold the windscreen in place. Don't think this would work on car windows though. So what have others used to hold windows in place?

Untill recently I mainly used MicroScale CristalKlear, but I've just "discovered" Humbroll Clearfix, and I like it Big Smile [:D]

As long as the part is clean of finger print s I use CA. I have also used Future which can work rather well.

I use future on most of my "glass". One of the first things I do when I start a kit is put a coat of future on the clear parts, if you get paint or glue on them you can strip the future (and glue / paint) with windex. Then put a new coat of future on.

For many pieces I just use future as the glue, it is very strong once dry. Since it takes a bit for future to dry I use CA (superglue) for pieces that are hard to keep in place long enough for the future to dry. I use just enough to hold it in place then put a coat of future around the edges to secure it more firmly.

I've used the Testors non-toxic cement, the one that kind of smells like orange (at least I thought it did) and more recently Future.

Hi Aaronw, I`ve just applied a coat of Klear (Future - in your part of the world ,I think) to all the `glass` in my latest truck kit. I`m not too thrilled with the result and wondered if you thinned yours down before appliying it. I used mine neat.

I just brush it on straight from the bottle, the only thing is to adjust the amount to avoid pooling and make sure the parts are clean. I know many spray it but brushing has worked fine for me. If you don't like it ammonia based glass cleaner will remove it, I've found the glass cleaner wipes work very well for stripping the Future. Also Future thins itself so you can just "repaint" it on if you get brush strokes or finger prints. One of the nice things about Future is it is so easy to do it over.
