harley kits ?

There are a few comanies(Revell, Tamiya, Italeri, etc) that make harley kits, most of those are in the larger scales 1/9 and above.

IMAI(RIP) used to release quiet a few kits in 1/12, they were good kits, well detailed but not shake and make kits Tamiya does.
The IMAI kits are also easy to convert and make custom coppers out of, but they are getting rare now and hard to find.

Aoshima bought all the licences from IMAI prior to their closing down but doesn't seem to be doing much with them.

mm, can't seem to find anyone who carries any kits other than the WW2 H.D. WLA. do you know of anyone?

One LHS close to me still carries a Electra Glide, but that is the only shop I am aware of that still has an IMAI Harley kits.

You might have to try eBay for those kits. Be warned though most of their kits were 40's~70's(maybe 80's) Harleys, nothing like the new V-Rods or similar.

Tamiya does a few kits in 1/6 scale, the nicest kit there was the Bad Boy but it was reserved for the japanese market.

Also try Hobby Link Japan they might still have some IMAI kits sitting on their shelves.

Wow , can't believe my luck.
Just found and a couple year old kit in my closet of a 1994 H-D U.S. Police Electra glide made by IMEX. Never heard of this company and I think I got the kit as a gift.
I did notice the kit has pretty good detail such as separate transmission case (3 pieces) and ok decals. The only downfall is they packed the chrome with all the other parts and it's all scratched up. Thank goodness for BMF.
Kit #465 and its 1/12 scale

IMEX Motorcycles are just re-packed IMAI models, they just print new boxes with english instructions to distribute in USA.
I have only seen they re-packed HD bikes, so I guess it got to do something with a license or something.
But once IMAI broke I guess IMEX stop "production" of their HD.

Revell released two 1/8 scale Harley kits in the mid nineties. One was a softail classic, kit. no. 7302, and the other I believe was a Heritage Springer. I haven't seen these kits in quite a few years, but as some posters have stated, you might be able to find them on eBay. Check http://www.4toys.org/Toy/Models-Kits/Motorcycle-Models_3.shtml for some of the Imex/Imai kits.

Thanks, I thought that might have been the case but I didn't want to speculate.

ERTL manufactures some very nice 1/10 scale diecasts of Harleys.
All of the newer stuff. V-Rod, Fat Boy's, Springer Classics, etc.
I suppose you could take them apart ands customize them, if you wanted to.

MPC, I think issued a model of a dirt racing Sportster. I have been trying to find this model. Does anyone know what the model was called? I think it was like "Burro" or "Burrito." In any case it was a 70's Sportster in desert racing trim. Very cool model and easy to modify in any number of ways. Wish I could find this thing.

Speaking of Sporties, anybody here remember the "Then Came Bronson" TV series, starring Michael Parks? Guy rode a sportster all over the country for various episodes. MPC also modeled that sportster in the sixties (in fact, just saw one on EBay at $35 with some parts already assembled). Sure wish I had picked one up way back when!

The "then came Bronson" Sportster was a 900CC 1967 XLCH.
Pre AMF bike with RH shift etc.. My 1st real ride was a 66 900 Sportty.
I had that bike for over 20 years..sold it for twice what I paid for it..
The problem with getting kits of HDs is the License to repro them..
The IMAI kits are nice if you can find one. And the new "Racing Champs" Diecasts are great kits you can take apart and detail out etc.. I'm in the
middle of re-building their 1/18 scale Fat Boy.
