If you don't want to use the foil you could have a look at Alex Kustov's site tutorial at
http://italianhorses.net/Tutorials/Window%20Masks/masks.htm

Whilst you are there have a look at some of his stunning models!

Bare Metal Foil makes a Black foil that can be used to trim around the windows just like their chrome trim. rangerj

If I recall most of those skill ratings go according to the number of parts included in a Kit, not really according to detail level or complexity.
Idea being that a child won't have the patience or concentration to build a kit with lots of parts.

I think it was always like that and, YES, I have build snap-tite kits that were better than their more expensive brethren.

I'm wondering if there is a secret to painting the black trim around the edges of windows on late model cars. I have built a few muscle cars, but now I have turned my interest towards NASCAR. I am having a hard time getting sharp lines on the braces and trim.
I am also wondering about skill levels. I had built a few Testor/Monogram 1/24 NASCAR cars in the early 90's and was happy with the detail on the skill 2 models. I am working on a skill 3 Revell/Monogram and it was identical to the level 2's that I was acustomed to building. I purchased a level 2 Revell NASCAR model and was unimpressed with the detail. It seemed like a Snap Tite plus glue. But the window trim was pre-painted so I guess there is a tradeoff. Has the manner of classifing levels changed? Just curious.
