factory 1:1 car has decal stripes on top of paint, no clear coat. but of the 3 or 4 I have seen all have had damage to the decals on the rear edge of the hood where they fold under the rear lip. so any damage done to a scale version would technicaly be right.

I went on google, and it looks like they are under clearcoat. I'll try to do pics, have to borrow a digital camera.

If i were you i would do them under, that way you can foil or buff and wax or even handle it without taking a chance of ripping the decal. Make sure you let us see it when your done!
