Do you guys use future for car windows?
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 11:03 AM
Just wondering, since I got back into models, Ive been using future on all my canopies for planes, but have only done one car in that time and didnt have any back then.
Also, just wondering if anyone has any tips on applying extra large decals, the biggest ones Ive had to worry about are insignia in 1/72. The one Im doing has full hood, roof, trunk and door decals. the good thing is they will almost completely cover my paintTongue [:P]! I dont anticipate any problems, but if anyone has any tips that would be great. thanks!

If you try `forum index` and go to `tools, technics etc`, you`ll find a whole section devoted to decals. I found lots of good advise on that subject in there.

I've used Future on all of my vehicle windows. Looks great and covers up some of my "sins." The gloss look is great and tinting the window is easy as can be.

As for large decals, I have found they are pretty much the same as smaller ones, with one exception. When the decals are large, I leave them on the backing sheet and slide them off right onto the car/plane/train, etc. I will sometimes put decal solution on the model first, if I had a chance to test it with a smaller decal first. Some decals will wrinkle up and never go flat again. (ask me how i know this......)

Hope this helps.

As far as future on windows, works great just like rockythegoat said, and if you have any questions, read swanny's "The Complete Future" article in the 'Tools and Techniques' section. Helped me alot with all the questions I had. Just remember to cover the pieces after the application of Future, dust sucks. The windsheild below was treated with future.

As far as the decals go, rocky hit it on the nose, however the only change I would make would be to use water instead of decal solution to pre-wet the surface of the said model. Then use the decal setting solution after the decal application. One it's cheaper, Two it's cheaper.
