How to get custom wheels made?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 3:11 PM
Hey guys,

Im buying one of my friends a custom 1/43 scale model car, and im trying to make it look as nice as possible. I wanted to put a set of wheels on it that i know he loves, yet im not exactly sure how to go about making these wheels and painting them and stuff. Would anyone know the cheapest way to make these wheels?

I was thinking of getting some of that firm stryofoam stuff, and carving the wheels out myself, and figuring out how to smooth it out enough to be able to paint it and have it look nice. But im sure that theyre's probably a much easier way to go about doing this, im just not sure which way that is lol.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

It really depends on the kind of wheel your trying to make. You could try modifying one of the exisisting wheels, then use it to cast the other three in resin.

This is the wheel

Work Euroline DH's

im not really skilled in making anything out of resin, but how difficult would you say it would be to attempt to make that style rim?

I don't think it would be too difficult to make a decent representation of that wheel. I'd try doing in 3 pieces (outer rim, inner ring, and disc notched appropriately for the center).
