Sunroof deflector/ground effects/source for wheels
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, June 5, 2003 3:40 PM
I'm going to work on Tamiya's 1999 Celica kit to modify it so it will match my brother's 2002 GT. There are several things I'll have to modify on this car, and one big one is that his has a dark tinted wind deflector on the sunroof. Anyone have any ideas on replicating that feature?

His car also has some different ground effects than the model does. I think these are real Toyota products, because I did another Celica from another dealer that was an exact match for his except for the color and the wheels.

Anyway, the sides have two wavy-looking semi-cylindrical details that appear to rise to the surface about 18 inches in front of the real wheel well (I wish I could describe this better). Any ideas for a way to duplicate this detail -- especially one that allows for more than one try without harming the kit body? I thought of using putty, but that seems too delicate. I did consider cutting and shaping Evergreen tubes and filling any gaps ...

There's a front air dam I'll have to make I'll have to make ...

Finally, his car has 10-spoke 17-inch aluminum wheels. Anyone know a source for those? I've found some eight-spoke wheels, and they'd do in a pinch, but I'd rather have a better match.

I'm planning on raiding a Honda Civic Si kit for the stock spoiler, as it is a pretty good match for the one on the real car. And there's a black mesh over the front air intake, for which I'll get some brass mesh.

Any help or suggestions on these issues would be greatly appreciated.

I did a custom Capri and i built the side skirts and wing pods out of platic card and green putty i would try this for the skirts and front air dam. as for the wheels have a look at whats on other car kits you could swap the wheels and then practise costomizing on it before you commit to working on the celica....Gregers .......... live long and prosper Cool [8D]
