When did celephane wrapping begin?

The earliest I remember kits being celophane wrapped is the late 60s(maybe) or early 70's. Before that the kits were taped on the ends of the boxes. The tape usually dried out, turned yellow, and often fell off. Sorry I cannot be more specific than that but I'm not a kit collector.

That is pretty much the way I remember it as well. But I thought I would ask to see if anyone could back it up.

I do remember seeing some items back then that were, I just wasn't sure about AMT and some kits.

Some kits were shrink wrapped, some weren't. (speaking of which; I got a 1962 Aurora kit off ebay that was in it's worn/brittle/yellowed original plastic, with a yellowed sticker on one end that had ".59c" wrote on it, in Fountain Pen.) At the same time, I remember buying an Aurora 1:72 Boeing 737 in 1973-74, and the box was taped closed on the sides. Go figure?

Remember back when you had to open and inspect models before buying them at the store, to make sure all the parts were still there... a practice that I'm sure inspired the model companies to start wraping them all.
