YZR-M1 GB?
Posted by Yamafreak72 on Friday, April 8, 2005 9:14 PM
Gentlemen and fellow Moto GP fans,

I remember once upon a time in the RC211V GB, the idea was brought forward for a YZR-M1 build. Anybody still interested? I got my 1/12 Rossi Gauloises kit, tobacco decals, grade up parts ready to go. All I'm waiting on is some CF decals and I'm ready to go. How 'bout it? Pingtang? Joel? SeaBee?

Haha, Yamafreak, I have awaited this for a while, what took you so long?? Big Smile [:D]
Well for my part it would be nice (as you all know I love building bikes) but I have a hard time finishing up my blo*dy Peugeot 206 for the Rally Car GB and I still have the three RCV:s to finish... Not to mention the fact that I haven't bought any of the two M1:s yet (even though I can't wait the weeks that's left for the Spiderman release). So I guess I'm out for the time being. Could catch up along the road if you get some companions.
best regards
Joel

Hi Yamafreak & thanks for the hlj.com tip.Aoshima has tons of bikes Tamiya doesn't make. They also allready have the new inverted tam. brass forks in stock.I want to try and replicate the new Kawi 636 ninja by usingTam's 1000 as the base.As far as your topic , I still don't get this group build thing, care to shed some light ? rudedog,

i've only been involved in one, but basically everybody agrees on a certain subject, sets time limits (if any), and any other rules they all want to agree on. You can check out the Group Builds section for a better idea. Even look at our RC211V GB if it's still there and see what we were all up to. I like it because it's a good way to get help if you need it, and there always seems to me that there's somebody that's got a better way of doing something than I do, so it's also a good way to improve your skills. I might go ahead and start throwing my M1 together solo, since there doesn't seem to be too much interest just yet, and besides Rossi just won the first race of '05 in a quite spectacular (though some might say questionable) way. Hope this novel helps.

Hi again & thanks.I couldn't find the "group build " section to save my life.I'm interested & have 2 of the 04 "gooooo" m-1's on hand.Ijust ordered the lionroar P.E. for them.Where did you get the "Gauloises" decals for Rossi's 05 ride ? Thank heavens for the speed channel, huh ? I like Nascar racing, but theres not enough of us that enjoy 2 wheeled motorsports in this country to warrant T.V.'s interest !!! If you can wait till I get the decals,I'll build with you.let me know please, either here or at sgtrudz@charter.net Sempr fi

Go back to hlj.com, I think they're low, but might have some left. I just got an e-mail from them saying my carbon fiber decals have been shipped. I'll let you know when I get them so you can see how fast they are. For the GB's, just go to the forum section under community, and then at the bottom of the modeling subjects you'll see the group builds. I don't know if I can hold off on my M1, it's calling my name! Especially after Sunday's race. If not this time, we'll just have to recruit real hard for a GB. Should have the Fortuna kit by then.

Thou art tempting me to shelve mine half-a$$ed attempt at (another) RC211V that is taking backseat to two other projects. Very tempting... Think I will more likely than not participate, but I'll start a bit later, if it's okay.

I'm certainly interested in this one. I was just looking at my M1 kit in the box the other day and thinking, "It's about time we got this GB going". I think it was watching the race Jerez the other day that got me interested. Mine might be an out of the box job, I can't afford CF decals at the moment.

Yamafreak Just post the GB topic over in the group build forum, and you'll eventually get others in. That's what happened last time.

rudedog Here's a link to the GB forum if you still can't find it:

I think the RC211V one is somewhere near the bottom of the pile, we haven't been posting there for a while.

Thanks Pingtang,Now I have the idea what G.B.'s are all about. And to Yamafreak,From reading thru that 211 G.B. ,you've been dying to do your M-1 since then,so have at.Is it the Fortuna Spiderman decals your using ? HLJ has them & I just placed my 1st order from them thanks to your tip.Part of the order was those Tamiya Inverted gold forks For my kawasaki 636 conversion project. The real 636 is the 1st streeter to come with a "slipper" cutch.Whats the purpose ? For coming on the throttle hard out of corners ? I figured you'd know. And rossi's last corner inside nudge is something I'd expect in Nascar, not GP,Don't ya think.Nice wheelie at the end, though !!! Decisions, decisions... Maybe I will go ahead and start my M1 solo over the weekend. That way Joel, SeaBee and Pingtang will have plenty of time to get ready. rudedog, I'm not using the Spidey decals, I think that MIGHT have been Joel. If not, my mistake. I'll probably just do the Fortuna bike with tobacco decals, and Milandri's number. I think he did better on the M1 than Checa last year. Are you sure the inverted forks will be accurate on the Kawi? I really don't know, I'm curious to find out. Sounds like an interesting project though. The purpose of a slipper clutch is so that when a rider is approaching a point where he has to downshift, like a tight corner, he can do so without having to pay attention so much to easing out the clutch after the downshift. On a bike with a "regular" clutch, like my R1, you've got to be careful not to come in too hot into a turn, downshift, and then let the clutch out too hard or you have a good chance of locking up the rear tire due to engine breaking. Not good when leaned over, dragging a knee at about 60. Not that I'm anywhere that skilled, mind you. YET. Hope this helps, and also everyone lets try to keep up with this M1 build so it can happen sometime in the near future. S/F
