1967 AMT vintage Mustang-question about primer
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 22, 2005 9:48 AM
Im rebuilding a 67' mustang. I sanded and now I'm priming. Using testors white primer in a can. Some of the detail on the body got covered to thick with primer, ie..door handle, mustang lettering on rear, etc. What do you suggest I do for these areas? Getting ready to airbrush the body, using lacquer paint..

STOP!

If you want the details to show then strip off the white primer and use a THIN coat of light grey automotive primer. You can buy a spray can of primer and spray some into your airbrush cup and spray it on the car body.

The reason for the STOP above, is that you plan on spraying laquer over an enamel primer. The primer will react (badly) to the laquer. If you keep the thickness of the paint down to "just enough" to cover, then your details will not be filled with paint.

RanjerJ, Thanks for that. You just save me from ruining this model.
