Pics of my BTTF3 Delorean
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 11:48 AM
Hi all, not really sure if this belongs under Autos or Scifi, but here is a BTTF3 Delorean I just finished. Most people prefer the car from the first 2 movies, but I've always had a soft spot for this one. There's just something about the sight of a 1980s Delorean on big fat 1950s tires in the desert of the Old West that I just love.

The problem is all the diecast versions are just awful. So I took the Aoshima kit and tried to make it as faithful as possible. I redid all the wiring, added tons of detail to the back and to the box on the hood, made better straps, and put on bigger fatter tires (the Aoshima ones surprisingly don't have a back to them). I also built a rudimentary suspension system so I could turn the front wheels and raise the car up to the right level. The diecast cars are just way too low to the ground.

Finally, I weathered it with pastel to give it that "just been chased through the desert by Indians" look. Big Smile [:D]

Mint! Mint!

On the subject, has anybody made a DMC Delorean that was non-BTTF? It'd be a great bare metal opportunity and who can resist those gullwings?

Great build Dave. Captures the movie vehicle very well.

A non-BTTF Delorean??? You mean it didn't always look like that? Big Smile [:D] Actually I searched all over for a basic Delorean model kit, so I could use it's non-hover conversion frame. But apparently there aren't any out there. It's not too much work to shave off the wiring on the sides though. Once you do that, and add a back window, you've got a stock Delorean. A plain... boring... stock Delorean.

Great looking car. Detail is excellent and it's a unique conversation piece. Almost makes me want to build cars....almost :D

Heh heh, who said anything about keeping it stock Wink [;)] But good point about reverse-bashing it. Hey, did I just invent a technical term?

Yes, go into your profile and make sure the "Display signature" option is checked. If it's not checked, your signature isn't displayed.

Someone, either here or at Starshipmodeler already built a train, and I couldn't dream of doing a better job than them. And like I said above, models from the first two movies are plentiful on the net already. If I did anything else, it would be something we haven't seen: The Delorean in the prehistoric past, or in the 30s, or at the north pole. LOL.
