Yeah, the guy is really good. It is something to strive for! Don't get demoralized, we all improve every time!

The kits are good as well and there was an interesting comment made by one of the guys over at F1M, saying if you take a newly released Tamiya F1 (which nobody sadly sees happening) and add the price of all the aftermarket PE sets and tobacco decals you invariably end up throwing at it, you usually tend to end up not far from a S27 kit!

Personally, I'd say that's not quite the case, but with competition in the form of Red 5 also appearing, the prices miiight drop, though it does not seem to have happened yet. And tbh, I am sure Bil added a few personal touches that weren't included in the kit. He's got a not yet completed diary on it (and some of his other builds, incl TH EJ10) on his site. Allways worth checking out.

Oh my goodness! It is really amazing. It's worth the price, no doubt about that. And Bill Attridge really knows his business, doesn't he? Bow [bow] Perhaps 20 years from now I'll get there!

Pastorino, you want to see S27 coming to full glory...? Check this out:

Bill Attridge (as usual in a class of his own...) put up a temp site for his BAR. Drool over it as the rest of us mere mortals did! Wink [;)]

Hi SeaBee, thanks anyway for your effort.

Please post pictures of the S27 kits when you finish them! I'll do the same when I finish my Aston Martin DB5 (which is going to take a long time, I'm afraid).

Ah, my self-imposed long weekend is at an end. Sorry man, my memory is going with age. I had a look at the article and it was not done with metalizers, as I thought, but with Humbrol. So much for that theory...

Concerning the S27 kit. I bought it because I HAD to have it. Got it for a good-ish price and just decided to close eyes and do it. Actually got two a while ago, as celebration for getting a new job! Hey, any excuse... Wink [;)] Both "tragic" kits, the FW16 and the Ferrari 126, both Imola versions.

I have not touched them apart from drooling. The Ferrari is a full metal kit, engin detail and all. The FW16 is a resin kit with metal detail parts. No engin detail, but the rest is super. My biggest concern is to try and not bugger up my first meeting with resin! So at this stage they are just resting...

Hi rexy beast,

I'm building a Doyusha 1/24 Aston Martin DB5, the one with all the 007's modifications. I'm a huge James Bond fan.

Anyway, it's brakes are not detailed. It has only the rotor, not the calipers.

What about you.... what is your current project?

for street cars, you can even get paint for the calipers, so they could be any color... im obsessed with street cars right now. by the way, what car are you doing?

Since aftermarket suppliers have all kinds of disc brake applications, you can get a custom look with something like jet exhaust or stainless steel colors.

SeaBee, I've never seen / touched / drooled on a Studio 27 kit. They're too expensive for me right now. How does it look in comparison to Tamiya's kits?

Aah, those are nice kits to build. Newer ones from Tamiya does have a bit more detail (and are easier to assemble on certain places) but those are very nice kits indeed!
On the Senna topic, I recently got myself a S27 kit of his Williams FW16 - looking forward to that challenge, sad as that day will allways make me.

Apart from that, I must admit I never got a chance to look at the book. Was at work most of the weekend, we had a huge action. Did not even touch my own models! Will try to stay awake and tell you what the guy did. However, the scale diff between 1:12 and 1:20 may make some of it a bit unpractical. But will let you know for reference.

As I'm a Brazilian, I'm willing to mount Ayrton Senna's cars. The one I have in a box is Tamiya's 1/20 McLaren MP 4/4, on which he won his first World Championship back in 1988.

Good stuff! Now for the real trick... me remembering! I remember something about a metalizer colour, think it might've been gunmetal and cyono accellerate (for the slightly uneven finish) and a quick spin on a dremmel with slight touch of sandpaper. It was a "used"-look car and a great job at that.

But I'll get hold of the article and tell the details.

Which F1 are you planning on building?

Niclas, thanks for the tip! I will buy both then, and try them out.

SeaBee, it's a street car, not F1 car, that I'm painting. So I believe the disc brakes are made of cast iron, not carbon. But, in any case, I would like to see those comments, because one of my unmounted models is a F1 car.

Many thanks,

Carlos Pastorino

I have an article at home (old TMMI) regarding the FW14B, where the author made specific comments regarding the way he made the disc brakes. Will have a read and post on Monday. That is, of course, if you use carbon discs... (?)

I think that a light colour would do the trick...maybe stainless steel or alumium. I usually take one of them when I do my brake disks

Gentlemen,

Which Model Master Metalizer color would you recommend to paint disc brakes in model cars?

Regards,

Carlos Pastorino
