Slipping gears on a motorized tamiya VW Bug

Hey all!
well ive had a bit of a break from modelling, not by my hand ofcourse!, started a new job and have been real busy (finally a paper pusher!!), but back to the point, ive started building the motorized tamiya VW Beetle for my girlfriend, and have a bit of a problem, the gears r slipping when i let it run... the chassis is pretty much finished, with the motor and steering in place, the only thing missing is the wheels...
it seems as if its the gears on the engine end, coz they dont slip when i apply pressure onto the "cage" (the part that holds all the gears down)... now i lubed all the gears up using the grease included with the kit and followed the instructions, but i still have this prob....

has anyone here had this prob, and how did u solve it?

im thinking of opening it up, and spraying some WD40 onto the gears, but i dont know if this will help..... also, could the prob b that i havent installed the wheels and the gold caps that go onto the axels?

thanks in advance!!!

This is a good ? for someone that has alot of Radio Control time racing cars. What the problem sounds like to me (with 15 years compitition r/c racing) is you do not have the gear mesh (distance between the gears) right. You have them spaced out to far from each other. If you can, open up where you can see the gears (I have never put one of these kits together) and find you a cigarette pack. Take out the silver lining inside of the pack and use that for you spacing.

Once you do that pull the lining out from between the gears and it sould be kind of hard to pull, but not to hard. This is the way I spaced my gear mesh all the time. Try that and let me know. Good Luck.
