I just recently saw this movie and would like to build the model. Has anyone built this model and what kit was used and if any mods to the kit.

Sorry, but I do know it was the first movie of a guy named Speilberg.

Actually, "Duel" was Steven Spielberg's thesis project. It was a made-for-TV flick. I do believe "Sugarland Express" was his first theatrical film.

I don't think a model exists for the specific truck in the film--but it should.

An amazing film, especially for a first film....saw it on TV first time it was broadcast.

In either FSM or the IPMS Journal a couple years ago, there was a picture of some modeler's interpretaion of this truck.

Shep Paine had a pic from Modeling Tanks and Military Vehicles, IIRC. It was in there as I recall, as an example of heavy weathering, to show that not just military models could be heavily weathered. That book came out 25 years ago or more.

RNK makes several older Peterbilts, not a 1955 351 but probably one would be close.

Wasn't there an actual article in FSM some time back about somebody building the truck from "Duel?" Gosh, I haven't seen that movie in AGES.

Pat,

No kits of the evil Pete but,

FSM made an excellent article (5 or 6 pages)of the "Duel" Peterbilt & tanker trailer back in the September/October 1984 issue, with tips and drawing plans to create an exact replica based on amt's Pete 359.

The model was a real masterpiece, try to get a copy or photocopy of this article & you will be on the right track, by the way the Duel movie was a huge hit in Australia.

To do this truck you would need AMT kit #T500, the "Little " Window Peterbilt along with a resin 351 hood from Griffen Designs. Check out stsmodeltrucks.com They carry Griffen items. Hope this helps.

Ok I am a bit late but I think I found something that might help you with the Duel truck model

Try this link http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/model_magazine_articles/fine_scale_modeller/fsm_1984_09-10_sep-okt/

it has the scaned images of the article in question.

Seeing as how it is out of print this is the only way to obtan the informaion save something like a chance encounter on eBay.

hope it helps
