Jeep Bush Fire Trucks (pics)

Here my almost completed collection of 1/24 Jeep based Bush Truck fire vehicles. Kind of showing the history and changes of them over the last 5 decades. (hard to believe out little 4WD friend is over 50 years old!!) I still have the Tamiya 1992 Wrangler to build.

From left to right, the kits are Heller Fire Jeep, AMT Jeep CJ7, and Maisto Diecast Hummer.

Here's the Heller Jeep. I left off the ladders and ladder rack. Added the rotating beacon from some kit. Decals were cobbled from all kinds of sheets.

Here's the AMT CJ-7. Lightbar is from a diecast police car kit, decals cobbled together, and the stowage in back is from an Ebay auction. Can't remember the vendor.

And a shot of the Hummer. Lightbar is from Lindberg and that was the only change. This was a one weekend "down and dirty build."

They all look great. That will make a great dio. My fav is the CJ-7 because of all the stuff in the back. I like the chain saw and the helmet they really make it seem more real.

On the hummer was it painited that color or did you take it apart and re paint it?

The flat fender gets my nod. I have always wanted to build a 1:1 scale... Think the wife would notice that box showing up at the house?

The red came that way. I painted the top gloss black with a rattle can.

10-4 on that!

just tell her it's a large scale project that you are going to build to see if you can get an article published in Finescale. of course, i tried that and it didn't work, but, what the ----!Big Smile [:D]

Nice job, I can't decide whether I like the flat fender or the CJ7 better.

Navynuke, fire trucks are supposed to be shiny, its a little known fact that firefighters just fight fires to keep them busy between wash & wax jobs on the trucks. Big Smile [:D]

A FIRETRUCK TOO SHINY???!!!??? I have no words. I feel faint. Lightheaded (which my wife would say, "that's nothing unusual....) Tongue [:P]

Actually, the "stuff" that isn't suppose to be shiny, isn't. But the flash really popped on the photos.

The firtruck slook pretty good. Only one comment. On the Willys Jeep version, the hose on the reel would look better in a tan color, as fire hoses are. You could also get some tan shoe laces and use them as well. Look good overall, just don't like the red hose on the reel.

Fire hose comes in so many colors now you can do anything, I've seen blue, green, yellow, tan, orange, and red, those are the common colors, also some now have white reflective stripes down the sides. For the age and type of hose (hard rubber line) red and black are most likely, I alternate based on what looks best on the reel (personally I would have used black just because it stands out more), on current hose reels there is a huge variety of hose available but black and red rubber hose is still the most common. I have the heller fire jeep so I know the reel comes molded as is but something I use to make hose reels is a piece of tubing and a couple of washers, then I wrap it with red or black wire 18-22 gauge, depending on if I want 1" hose or 3/4" hose (inside diameter), 1" is more common on structure engines, 3/4" on wildland but you will find either on both.

yea, i went back and forth on that one. i got lazy at the end there and took the simple way out. i was going for the hard, red booster line hose look. but, i think i'm going to either so for black or "re-hose" it with tubing as suggested by AaronW.

I think I'll also throw a length of canvas, large diameter hose on the front of the rig. We use to have that stuff around on the older trucks, until it continued to rot. At which point we went to the synthetic stuff. (This was in a previous life, in a galaxy far away. I'm no longer an active FF-er.)
