Well my first post of my 66 ElCamino went over like a ton of bricks…..seems there was no interest. Maybe this one will be better. This is another recent build within the past year. It has lots of details under the hood, chassis and interior. I wanted something other than the typical red or red/white two tone or the coral/charcoal two tone so I went with factory correct Autumn Bronze/Shoreline Beige from MCW.

Thanks for looking and as always comments and critique welcomed.
Craig

I must have missed the Camino also - both are excellent. The posed shots add authenticity and look so real - great work. (Now we'll all be trying it!)

Nice ... both the car and the photos. You have that Midas touch ... and I don't mean mufflers.

Thank you for the web sites. This is exactly what I wanted to know. It seems Chevy changed the color to a lighter copper color for the 57 and later models. I am looking forward to using the laquer paint. Being able to match the old OEM paint colors is great.

Thanks again, and I like the El Camino.

I want to do a 57 Chevy hardtop in that scheme. I think Chevy used that scheme in 57 with a bronze body and light roof on the hardtop. I think Chevy used the bronze up through 59 or 60. Could you share a little of your research on the colors?

Thanks to all for the comments.

Here is the info you asked about my research/paint and some info/links that may be helpful for you 57 build.

The model was painted with MCW lacquers and clear coated with Dupont clear lacquer.

I bought the paint from, Model Car World Automotive Finishes (MCW). They sell lacquer and some acrylic enamel paints for most available colors on most cars through the 70’s. Click on ‘Paint’ and then select make (GM in this case), available colors are listed by year. I have used this paint (lacquer) many times and have always had great success. After mailing in the order you can expect for it to arrive in about two weeks. There is an order form on the site to print out but they do not take orders online.

Here is a link to a color reference site. Just follow the drop down menus and select the make and year to get the color chips and options.

Here are a couple reference sites for you I had booked mark for the 57.
http://www.rafaz57chevyclub.homestead.com/main.html

This link has a neat little intro with B/W photos for the tri 50’s, watch it or skip it it’ll bring you to another page, click on ‘Reference’ there is an assembly manual for each of the tri 50’s. I used the 55 assembly manual for building reference when it came to the engine and chassis details.

I hope this helps and answers your questions. I am always happy to help out any way I can, but I am no expert by any stretch!

Hey I know what you mean thats happened to me a couple of times, turns out the Images I was posting were rather large for someone running a slower connection , see how large your image files are and size them down if you can it makes a big difference they shouldnt be larger than 500KB for an average connection.

Nothing special about the camera or the settings. As a matter of fact my digital camera is about 5 years old…Olympus 1.3mp camera …at the time is was a mid to top level camera. I paid $400 for it........now they give this kind away in cereal boxes! Wink [;)]

The key is in the set up. A distant back ground (this is across an open field), the model off the ground and placement of the camera so as to shoot at angles much like you would shoot 1:1 cars. Oh the base is a piece of plywood with some model RR gravel glued on it.
Here is a typical setup I use at this particular location. Actually here I am parked in another parking lot 90 degrees from the location the 55 Chevy was photographed but you get the idea.

Thanks for all the comments.

Well, you did a much nicer job of yours. I'm getting back into modeling after a 20 yr slump, and I'm having to relearn many of the skills I thought I had...

I'm pretty sure the only difference between "pace" and "regular" is the decal sheet. Once I figure out how to take a picture of the car without showing any of my flaws, I'll post it. Be prepared for a close up of the tire tread!

So long folks!

Is this the Revell 55 Chevy Pace Car kit, sans decals? I'm just about finished mine and am debating whether or not to decal it or not. I think I won't. I, ahem, painted mine red and white, isn't that unusual of me? Big Smile [:D]

It is the Revell kit but not the pace car.....just regular. Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]
I try and avoid decals at if at all possible....we just don't get along very well!

Yes, you had the only reply to my Camino post...thanks!

Hey I got nothing against red/white, it is a great color combo for that car, I just wanted something different.......and that is fairly typical of ME! Big Smile [:D]

Be sure and keep me posted on your progress. I finally broke free of a wicked 4 month motivational slump and got back on a 53 Ford Crestline. Hopefully will have some progress to post soon.
