There are also a few varieties of "cloth tape" that will work. I find it in a "crafts" store.

Hey guys thanks for the tips. Masking tape sounds the easiest and sure makes good sense. I was in my favorite hobby shop today and found Testors has a new 2part (didn't notice the 2 part until I got home with 1 part) Vinyl top textured paint. So when I get back for 2nd part will also try this.

I used 3" wide masking tape painted semi gloss black on this Roadrunner. You can overlap it to simulate the seams.

I have heard of people using silk which has enough texture to simulate vinyl.
What scale are you using for the Olds?

Modelcargarage.com also sells a vinyl top product. I bought one just to see how it would work but haven't actually used it yet.

There are modeling puttys available which you could apply and then texture with a fine grained sponge. You just want to give a hint of texture to keep it within scale.

Always liked the 66 Cutlass, never did like vinyl roofs, though!
