Bentley Green

Just something which may I hope help here.

There is no official colour British Racing Green.

The colour was allocated to England under the international racing coloiurs scheme but each manufacturer was left to decide for themselves the actual colour for BRG.
Thus a Jaguar racing in BRG would be a different colour from say an Aston Martin BRG which in turn would be different from say Bentley BRG and Lotus BRG.

Normally BRG is taken to mean a very dark "emerald" green.

Keep in minad also the paint makers had their mix for BRG and a BRG from Dulux would be a different BRG shade to that from another supplier.
As an aside red went to Italy , Silver to Germany, French Blue to France , White to USA and so on. Some makers also had an extra identifying colour painted prominently on the car. BRM had a red nose band. Brabham had a gold noseband etc.
This was well before the sponsors dollars added their colour and liveries.

BRG of that vintage would not have been metalic. There are a couple of BRGs in use today that include both non-metalic and metalic shades of green. I'll look for the web site I passed through a few weeks ago that discussed this very topic, ie the history of BRG. It was a UK web site. I was lookig for LeMans pics of the Ford GT 40 cars. If I find it I'll post it.

The Speed8 is a dark metallic green

You can see that it is almost black although the green is evident in some other close up pictures, mainly where the paint is chipped.



and here is the Speed 6 that came second in 1930 - here the BRG is slightly lighter.

Yep - BRG. The classic color of (proper) classic British Automobiles.

Hi Andy, Congrats on the build. It looks terrific. I had a friend who owned one (his was the 3 1/2 litre version). I would agree that you`ve got the colour spot-on, although I`ve always believed it to be called `British Racing Green`.

SeaBee - I did my 1931 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre Blower in British Green (TS-9) and thought it looked dead-on.

Yeah thank for the feedback Mark! Those are the only two options available. Had a look around and saw that TS43 is actually the colour they prescribe for the old Lotus model (49, I think). So maybe "Racing Green" is closer to BRG than "British Green" (the latter I suspect might be for tanks, etc... (?) So that is where I'm leaning towards at this stage, maybe covering it with Pearl Clear, unless some other input convince me otherwise.

Yes, I'm still threatening to take pics of my muddied Focus! Have a mobo going on my home pc, though, so that takes preference for the next few evenings. And the 04 Subaru is lined up as soon as I complete decalling the Porsche! Suspect as soon as the decalling is done, I'll take pics of both the Porsche and the Focus. Whoo-hoo two fast models on a photo-shoot! What will the mrs say...

For some reason I always thought it was close to British Racing Green. However I know the BRG was also not a fixed colour and changed a bit with time and manufacturer. As an historical note I understand that the first of the Bentley LM winners was a completely different green almost grass green.

(As an aside SeaBee I haven't given up on the rallycar GB I actually resprayed the Stratos dash a couple of weeks ago!)
