Does anyone make a tractor?
Posted by armydogdoc on Friday, September 30, 2005 9:01 PM
Hi gang,

I am on the look out for a farm tractor model to convert into a pulling tractor like the ones in tractor pulls. Does anyone or did anyone ever make farm tractor kits?

Ertl made some farm equipment including at least one tractor, I see them on ebay occasionally but they don't go cheap. I'm also not sure of the scale.

I'm pretty sure they came in 1/25th scale, saw them occasionally as a kid but they where kind of stonedead in our fast cars-world at that time.
Would love to build one today. Not long ago there was a back-hoe tractor from AMT/ERTL reissued, think it was a John-Deere?

I don't believe there are any 1/25th scale tractors currently in production, however in ther past Ertl produced three tractors :
1155 Massey Ferguson

1466 International harvester

4430 John Deere

These still pop up occassionaly on ebay. AMT/Ertl repopped the JD about 5 years ago for John Deere dealers. They are slightly more plentiful. Also AMT produced the Meister Brua pull tractor comlete with 3 Aires Hemi engines a few years back.

The tractors in the above pictures are not quite box stock. I adjusted them to fit the dioramas they're in.

Your best choice would be the rare Meister Brau pull tractor as mention in previous email, the kit was introduced in the mid-80's by Amt/Ertl, this one was a real show beast like you see in pull tractor shows, 3 engines inline, extended frame, extra beefy mud traction tires & a lot of shiny chrome, really nice kit, with all those high performance parts fitted for pull & show tractors, but not a big sale succes was discontinuated in the early 90's. was not remarketed since then.

If you need a starting base try the 70's 80's ERTL kits, like mention earlier, the JD in farm version & also construction back-hoe version was repop back in the late 90's after a long retirement.

Check eBay, some still show up from time to time...but the Meister Brau kit is not cheap!

Thanks guys,
I have been looking and will keep doing so, I thought that I remember seeing tractor kits as a kid. I just wanted to make sure that I wasnt out chasing ghosts.
