I usually try to avoid AMT kits myslef, alot of the times I have to use them though since they have alot of truck offerings. For the most part they are hit and miss, some have been decent kits that with some work turn out nice and others have just been to much trouble to really put into them.

The AMT (ex MPC) General Lee is in fact based on the annual 69 MPC Charger 500 fastback kit; the body is wrong (fastback glass design)( the real ones had the RT tunnel back window) interior & frame details are pretty simplistic, fiting & alignment could be better, will demand extra hours to duplicate a nice replica.

Your best choice would be theMonogram/Revell ProModeler 69 Charger RT kit as a starting point, the kit is miles away from the Mpc kit, plus you get the correct rear RT glass, add the roll bars, pushbar, mags & decal sheet from the mpc kit & you will get a much better replica.

As for the color Hugger orange isn't bad but I would preffer Hemi Orange. note that many, many, many ,many 69 Chargers where destroyed during the 1979-86 episode runs, so I can guess that the orange shade must have been slightly different from time to time, when new Chargers where sent to body shop to be transformed into General Lee's to replace the "career finished ones!"

I noticed that there's a new AMT release of the General Lee, and the car on the box looks like the correct charger body style. Does anyone know if the kit has been changed?

people have been saying they use hugger orange. Try looking at the forums on www.scaleautomag.com, there should be some more info there. Like gig already stated, if you can, avoid the AMT, the fitment seems to be rather poor on all their kits.

Personally, I tend to stay away from the AMT models. They have lots of flash (modeler speak for excess plastic) and a poor fit. I have no clue about the orange, but if you look it up maybe you should be able to find the color.

Hi group, I am new and am looking to get into building models, as this is something that has interested me and I have only built 1 model, that was a space shuttle about 14 years ago.

What I want to know is what is the AMT kits like for building, as I want to get the AMT General Lee kit, as I would love to build a model of the General Lee, as it is my all time favourite car from a programme.

Are they difficult to build if I take my time and build it over a few days/weeks. Also what paint would I have to get to get the orange close to the original General from the Show. Any help is appreciated.
