What is your favorite Tom Daniels model?
Posted by flippersdad on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 7:22 PM

I have waiting patiently in the que for it's turn to make it to the work table a Rommel's Rod. I build one back in 1969 when I was a kid, my mom pitched it in the trash when we moved, it was one of my favorite models back then. Anyway, what was, or is your favorite model designed by Tom Daniels? He turned out several designs for Monogram.

Cheers,

Eric

I think my very first model was the Paddy Wagon, followed by the Red Baron. I also had the Tijhuana (sp?) Taxi and the Hangman. I was around 12 or 13 yrs old then. My favorite has to be the Paddy Wagon as I saw it at a car show and thought the engine was really neat. My mom too either gave away my models to a nephew or threw them out when I got a job as a camp counselor. I had a whole box of model stuff and parts I no longer had and had to start over. Now I have more than plenty.

I really dig the Paddy wagon and was glad to see Revell/Monogram rerelease it a few years ago. I bought a few of them. As for mom getting rid of our "stuff" I know the feeling all to well. My mom got rid of the 1929 ford Tudor I was in the process of restoring befor I got drafted. When I returned from Southeast Asia I was shocked to find the garage emty. My mom said she did not think I would be interested in that "old car" any more. she sold all of my "pieces parts" as well as the car. I have not recovered from that loss almost 40 years later. Moms, ya gotta love em!

Favorite model? That's hard to answer as Tom Daniel had designed well over one hundred models for Monogram.
I'd have to start with the Beer Wagon as being my favorite, then go on to the various modified T's, the construction equipment and so on, down the list.
It'd be nice if Monogram decided to rerelease some more of these. But I'd be hard pressed to try and decide which one I would want to see done again.

When I went through my car phase in my early teens, they were almost exclusively Tom Daniels designs.  Mine went by the wayside during one of our moves (AF Brat).  I have since been trying to get my favorites back but the prices they go for are just too high.  Did get the S'cool Bus when it was rereleased.  Still trying to find a Rommel's Rod, Dragon Wagon and Tijuana Taxi (never had that one).

Jinx Express was fun building a combination lock for it (although, everyone who had that kit knew the combo).  Others I like but haven't got yet are the Paddy Wagon (want the one with the figures) and the Ice Tee.
