Does anybody know of an ambulance?

Fred's Custom Models does modern ambulance boxes for pickup trucks and the like. For an older ambulance, with some modifications, there's the one the Ghostbuster's used. It was reissued by Polar Lights recently I believe.

Ambulances aren't that popular a subject oddly enough.

There was an 80's Dodge Van ambulance, done as a Rescue 911 kit. From what I've heard not a great kit, no interior parts, basically just a van kit with a light bar & decals for an ambulance. Johan did a 60's Cadillac ambulance. You can usually find both on ebay. I don't know of any current ambulance kits unless you get into resin. If you want the modular style its not all that hard to scratchbuild the box from styrene and add it to a pickup cab & chassis. There are not many van kits to use as a base for the van style ambulances but Johnny Lightning is supposed to make a nice diecast 1/25 Ford F-350 you could use as a base. 

thanks guys. I am looking for the truck style not the van. I am going to check out what Fred's Custom Models has and see if I can use anything. My son's room is done in Firetrucs and ambulances and right now I am building the Ladder Truck from AMT. I think it is a pretty good kit. I would do a morden firetruck instead of the 70's model that is from the AMT kit, but I just liked the way the truck looked. My son has a firetruck bed that my dad made for him, and I am going to get an unfinished dresser and make it into a firehouse for him.

I wasn't planning to do an ambulance kit, but my wife (who is a paramedic) said I will not let you put a firetruck in his room unless you build an ambulance as well. So with the twisting of an arm I will have to build another model kit. Man I hate it when the wife makes me build models....lol.

I will look into my options and see which will be best for me. To build the box or see what Fred's Custom Models has. Thanks again for everything

That would probably be perfect to use with the RM Ford F-350 Dually pickup truck kit?

That was the one I was thinking about using, but the only problem I see is that the RM Ford F-350 is an Extended cab, and ambulances don't have extended cabs. So I will have to remove the extra part, and I have never done anything like that before.

Does anybody have any advice for me? Should I use my Dremal tool and cut it, or just use my knife and cut it out? Hmmm....I don't know. Oh well I hope somebody can help me. In fact I am pretty sure someone can.Oh well if nobody can because I have time before I start working on it. I have to finsih the firetruck I am working on first and then I have an Aircraft Carrier to build for my father-in-law, then I can worry about the ambulance.

In theory this is going to sound easy enough Some of this I am just speculating on, since I have never been in an ambulance (knock on wood) but don't they have a walk through cab? Like on a normal truck where you find the rear wall or bulkhead, isn't that gone on an ambulance and its tied into the rear box? If this is the case, you can just cut the cab to the correct length and leave it at that. If not, I guess you are going to have to cut off the rear wall of the cab and glue it back on to the cab. Hopefully it won't be to tough, or you could just tell your wife some crazy guy from Indiana said they have extended cab ambulances there Good luck!

I just chopped up a Monogram F-250, but its basicly the same cab. I used an X-acto razor saw to do most of the work. I used my dremel a little bit, but the cut off wheels are a little tricky to get used to because they take out allot of material, and if you turn the rpms up too high, you'll melt the plastic.Basicly I used masking tape to mark my lines, and started hacking away. I just cut behind the door panel lines and then I cut out the very back of the cab, and glued them back together. I had to use a little filler on the bottom of the cab, because my two cut lines were'nt exatly paralell. I hope this helps you in your project... . .    Here are some links that might help you

Ok thanks for everything, the info on how to do it and the links. I found the one on Freds before hand. I really like his boxes he has. I also love the lightbars and the LED lights that flash. Ok I might go crazy on this build....

I am a Paramedic and Firefighter (also a Flight Paramedic in the Navy) so if it has lights, sirens or moves patients, I'll build it.

Ambulance manufacturers will build a truck pretty much any way you request, including extended cabs which I've seen on modern trucks from Dodge to Frieghtliner and Navistar.
It's just less common.
But cutting the extension off would be simple enough.
