Peterbilt Rescue Truck

Here's a peek at my latest creation. This is the AMT Pete 359 kit. It is a typical AMT kit so just building it OOB is a challenge enough. So I figure why not challenge myself more with some scratch building. Not only that but I had no set plans of what is going to be, just figureing it out as I go along.

I added some detail to the engine. Like the fuel lines and replaced the huge kit dipstick with some wire. All the metal parts have been painted instead of sticking with the kit chrome. Here's what the engine pretty much looks like.

Figured on giving this a bit of a road driven look.

Here's the cab. Not to much really to look at. Did not get into detailing it much since once the windows are on it is hard to really see anything but a blur.

Yup, it's a Peterbilt.

Shot with the wheels on it. Went with some steel metalizers instead of the kit chrome. To me that and painting the tires flat black makes it look alot more realistic. Just my opinion.

And of coarse it is going to be red. Is there really any other color for a fire truck? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Here is the point at which I dedicated what kind of build it was going to be. It now says it is a rescue truck. I used the Chimneyville St. Louis decal set for the decals. Which also means this will be a St. Louis truck, pretty sure they don't have a truck like this but I have the decals and it's not like there is a wide selection for fire decals.

And here is how it sits right now after the gloss coat and foiling. The light bar is just set tehre for looks. Probally not going to use this one since it looks a bit rough.

Hope to have more pics soon. Comments and suggestions welcome as always.

Excellent progress on the Peterbuilt, Chris. Your shelves must be filling up with all these scratchbuilds and kitbashed vehicles! If you need a thermos, let me know...Big Smile [:D]

Hey your doing a great job on this Peterbilt.  This comes from a guy who's been building model trucks for nearly 30 years.

It's great to see a Peterbilt that is not a show pony like so many others.

Great photo's, keep up the great work.

Cheers

John

Thanks guys.

I have not done any of the others but I bet just from building the AMT one that the others are better. The AMT one is just like the ALF kits, hard to get to fit together right and alot of the parts are way over scaled.
