Small Scale Customs
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, January 7, 2006 4:21 PM
I don't have a lot of space or time, so I've started customising really small cars.  I've done a few of the Cararama 1:72nd range, such as detailing a rally Mini.  I'm planning to do hot rods in 1:76th, perfect for British OO railway layouts, and I've found a company in Germany that does photo etched details for 1:87th scale cars- though that's not such a popular scale in teh UK.

Anyone else do little customs?

I can't say I do have, then again, I don't think I have ever seen anything that small but RR cars! You've got my utmost respect if you are building these cars and customizing them, that is smaller than a hotwheels! Got any pictures?

I posted a few on my blog, follow either of the links in the post above.  It's fun to hold the Mini up to the screen and compare it to the magnified version in the picture.

This is just an early try, I plan to get ever more detailed and use photo etch and start casting my own components.  Plane harnesses should work as multi point racing harnesses, but I may have to make my own lap belts etc.

I do small scale custom builds in 1/87. Everything you see here will be something that has been changed rather drastically or comes from a kit. You're right, there's a lot of p.e. and resin accessories in 1/87.

Impressive stuff.  I've linked to it on my blog.

I'll be working in 1:72nd (Cararama's main scale over here) and 1:76th (OO model railway scale).  I haven't found many add-ons at all in those scales.  Maybe I'll have to start a range of them.

That looks great Ian, as you stated though, the racing mini wouldn't have the extra seats, possably would have two bucket seats though (an option of doing one standard mini and a full rally version there though  by swapping the two front seats and losing the rear one in the race car. i have built a grass track racing mini with a friend (his car) and he had the full cage though hoops with diagonals to the rear wheel arches would be workable. the grass tracker had the full cage and the rear subframe and floor cut away and the new rear suspension was independant trailing arn and motorcycle coil over shocks, this made the rear of the car so light that i could easily pick it up (and i'm no Charles Atlas LoL) would love to se pics of the capri you have done. i have some cararama 1/72 landrovers that are crying out for detailing

all the best.
