Buick boattail kit?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, January 27, 2006 11:39 PM

In my opinion one of the coolest rides ever produced.  Does anyone make a scale model?  This thing came stock with a 455!  (Click the pics to open them up.  Don't know what happened with the sizing.)

Does that bring back memories! From 1970 to 1984 my mother worked for a Pontiac Buick dealer in Nanaimo BC. In 1973 we went on a trip to Edmonton (my ol'home town) to visit some friends and relatives and the boss lent her his 1973 Riviera for the drive. He wanted us to drive in comfort!

What a ride. Stable and smooth, the Riviera gulped down the highway like gulped down gas. I remember the drive from Jasper to Edmonton like it was yesterday. I noticed the trees and telephone pole zipping by and looked over to see the needle pegged at 120mph! If felt like we were going 60mph. That car could pass anything but a gas station!! That big 455 drank premium unleaded gas like it was water. Good thing gas was relatively cheap in 1973.

Sadly I have never seen a kit of any Riviera outside of the 65, 66 & 69 model years. I always liked the early 60s Rivieras, but that boattail was a looker!

I was blessed with a cool mom and had the opportunity to drive in and actually drive some pretty neat cars. I took my learner's license in a 1976 Firebird 400 Formula! w00T! Heh, since she worked at dealerships I bought and sold a ton of 60s muscle cars. 66 Nova, 68 Firebird, 67 Barracuda (my best car!), 72 Nova, were those ever the days!

So long folks!

Hi scott05,

I love those big Rivvies, I occationally see them on ebay in the resin kit section. I just checked and sure enough there's one there. http://cgi.ebay.ca/1971-Buick-Riviera-detailed-resin-kit_W0QQitemZ6034775091QQcategoryZ1190QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem they're pretty rare, guess that's why they're pricey. Anyway, good luck -vb-
