1:12 Scale Honda RS1000 Endurance Racer

Hi Folks

Complete Honda RS1000 racer, an older Tamiya kit but still a gem to build especially with the new decals Tamiya are using. Only changes were the white portion on the lower cowling is painted and not decaled as in the original kit.

Great build!  I've always loved that bike and have a kit on my shelf waiting.  What are the new Tamiya decals you mention?  Where do I get them?  Bike looks great.

Tamiya's limited time reissue of the kit included Cartograf decals, which is a lot better in quality and is very opaque compared to the older ones.

Hi Scott

The recent reissue of the Honda RS1000 along with 3 other older GP bikes like the Honda NS 500 and Kwasaki KR 500 and the Kwasaki KR1000S endurance Racer included a new decal supplier. The reissued kits came with to quote Tamiya "Decals, printed by the world-famous Cartograf"  (Cartograf also print S27 decals). The Cartograf decals are a better quality than the previous decals supplied by Tamiya. The one big advantage of the new Cartograf decals is  the white portions are opaque, so the old problem of the base colour showing through the decal is avoided. If you have ever attempted a Tamiya Honda CB900F-2 BOLD'OR of a Tamiya Ducati 900 M.H. Replica you would remember the horrible "transparent" white decals! which for some wonderful reason Tamiya still provide today in these same kits?

Amazing work.  I really can't say anything else other than I'm envious of your skill :)

If you love your bike let it go. If it comes back to you, you've highsided. http://public.fotki.com/luke76/

Andrew and others, is the box art different for these reissues?  I actually have the unopened original Kaw and Honda kits and have considered those notoroius transparent decals.  Anyone know if Tamiya is supplying the Cartograf decals as seperate items?  Thanks for the info.

Scott I am not sure about the original box art being different from the reissue as I have not seen the original kits, but in the past Tamiya reissues have tended to stick with the original box format.

The Cartograf decal can be ordered from HobbyLink Japan using their very efficient spare parts service. I ordered a spare decal sheet among other parts for the Kawasaki 1000 and the Cartograf sheet arrived in several weeks and it was reasonably priced
