LOL! I wish! That didn't happen! However, the audition went very well and I feel very good about my performance. I have been told that I am being considered. I won't know for several more weeks or even a month. They have alot more people to audition.

I'll keep you posted!

True, Orangecon is on Sunday, second one in October. Well, if you can't make it to Orangecon, then the Nationals should be easy. Besides, it only took me 5 and a half hours to drive to Phoenix and back when I met my brother there last December. And my car barely goes above 60! Big Smile [:D]

Anyway, I'm sure you'll figure something out.

Sure would like to get to those Nationals next year; they'd be just a six or seven hour drive from Phoenix. It would be easy to throw in a side trip to visit my girl friend, too. I don't know about Orangecon; that usually takes place on a Sunday, doesn't it? I usually work on Sundays and fall is the buisiest time at the plant nursery I work at.

Thank you Axel. It is nice to hear comments on my work. Yours are very appreciated. I am thoroughly enjoying this build and I'm glad to hear that it looks good to you.

Jhande, thanks also for the compliments. Black huh? I have a project that I need to fnish that is going to be all black: A Ford 1911 Model T, available in any color you want as long as it's black!

Thanks Jim Barton. Yes, I remember that tornado chase vehicle. That was a great piece of work. I'll be looking forward to seeing more of your work at this year's Orangecon. I do expect you'll be at our Nationals too right?

Thanks again guys! Now that I'm home, I'll be doing more work. But, I won't be able to take any pics for awhile until my camera arrives from Colorado. Yes, I left it behind. Blush [:I] My friend Jim is sending it out tomorrow.

Until then, stay tuned!

Cool looking car! That candy apple red makes it look like a hot-rod Doozie!Smile [:)]

You don't see too many kits of the old classics like the Duesenberg or the Packard. I one time did find an old MPC kit of a 1932 Chrysler Imperial at an insulator show (a convention where collectors of those glass objects from telephone poles buy and sell them), of all places. I built the model (that sound you hear is all the kit collectors cringing), even did some detailing and backdating, and it's now sitting on my dresser. I'd send pictures, but I don't have any photo-scanning equipment.

Remember last summer when I brought my tornado chase vehicle from Arizona to IPMS Orange County? I'm still fooling with that model; honestly, for every two steps forward, half the time I take one step back! I brought the model to California again over Christmas, and three of the wheels fell off!Angry [:(!] Finally got them back on (after making wire axles to help attach them), although one doesn't quite touch the ground, but at this point, all I care about is that they stay on!

I think the light tan would look great too. I'm just a dark car color type of guy. It's hard for me not to paint everything black.  Tongue [:P]

I seriously hope that DURR and jhande aren't the only ones.

As a matter of fact, I know they're not the only ones, because I'm a very interested reader of this thread Smile [:)]. I must admit that this type of car is not my cup of tea. But what I will admit is that it is one hell of a great looking car. You've done an excellent job on it.Thumbs Up [tup]

Apologies for not replying sooner Blush [:I]. I'm just a silent admirer !Shy [8)]

Regards and good luck with your audition !

Thanks again DURR. The parts I was missing were the hood side panel, gear shift, instrument panel/dashboard and the steering column. Thanks to Steve, I got all these parts and I'm able to get this one finished.

Now, check in about a week later to see how she turns out.

Thanks again guys for stopping in and posting here it is always a pleasure to read your comments.

Now I want to publicly thank Steve (cowboybebop on the LEM Forums) for sending me four pieces that were missing from my kit. Steve, thank you! They all fit perfectly! Without you, I'd never be able to finish this model!

Now, on to my progress on this Build.

I managed to get alot of work done on my Doozie. First off, I painted the wheel rims with the gold and when they were dry, I put them together on the tires and then mounted the wheels on the chassis. I also painted the whole chassis with Pollyscale Oily Black. When that dried, I drybrushed the whole chassis with Pollyscale Flat Aluminum. These whitewalls look great on gold wire rims! Check them out:

It's kiind of hard to see on this pic, but the Oily Black paint/Flat Aluminum drybrush gives it a unique, used, metallic look to this chassis.

While I was doing that drybrushing, I had an idea. I watered down some more of the Oily Black and then, using a small pointed brush, I 'washed' the Oily Black into the recesses and the rivets and bolts on the engine.  Once that dried, I dry-brushed more flat aluminum over the silver areas and reduced some of the Oily Black. I didn't want to do too much, after all this is a relatively clean, well-cared-for engine. Still, I think this looks pretty darn good! Check it out:

Next, I was looking at the chrome 'screens' that go on the side of the hood pieces. I wanted to fix them so they'd look better. So, I painted them all over in black, and then took a paper towel and gently wiped off the excess, leaving the black in the recesses. This next pic shows the difference between the painted part and the unpainted part. The painted one is below the unpainted part:

Next, I had to install the floorboard to the fenders. Before that though, I noticed that there was a wood grain on the bottom. So, I decided to paint that up to look good, even though it is on the bottom and mostly hidden from sight. First, I painted on a dark brown color and let dry. The i picked a sandy colored tan and drybrushed that over the woodgrain that was molded into the piece. This is the result. In this pic, you are looking up from the bottom, just behind where the engine mount is. The transmission is to the right on the pic:

And finally, here is a test fit of the interior in the body, and the body to the chassis. I will be taking everything apart again to touch up a few things, as well as respray the top

Pretty awesome looking car, if I do say so myself!:

That's my progress so far. I hope to have more done on this before Thursday. I'm leaving for a week on Thursday to Colorado to audition for a movie. I will resume any and all projects again when I return the day before my birthday on March 1st.

Meanwhile, comments are welcome on my progress so far.

Okay, I'll be happy to show progress. I got some more paint on this kit now. I painted the interior a tan color and will later be makinig the seats Leather, and possibly make the cabinet doors oin the back into a woodgrain pattern.

While the interior was drying, I laid down the Candy Apple Red over the body, even though I've been assured that this car never had that color. Mine is gonna have it since it represents a 'restored' Doozie. Here is how it looks sitting on the black fenders:

That's my progress so far. I may have to slow down a bit since I have to wait for the arrival of several replacement parts from Revell/Monogram. Still, I shall get done what I can and post the progress pics when I get more work completed.

Well, painting it in Candy Apple Red over Gold is my own look, since this car has never been done in that color before. As you can see above, it definitely stands out as unique and quite gorgeous! Besides, it was nice getting away from building Military for awhile.

Still, it is an intriguing idea. Maybe another time since I already have a plan for this kit. I like your thinking though.

Thanks for stopping in everyone!!

That's right, this military modeler has stepped up to build something unique and different. I had gotten an old Monogram Deusenberg kit in 1/24 scale from the Distressed Kit auction at my IPMS club. THis model had already been started, so I'm a little ahead of where I expected to be in this project. I'm building this as part of a mini-Group Build with three other guys over on the LEM Forums. Same car, three different looks. Emough rambling, on to the pics:

This is the engine. It was built by the previous owner of this model who dontaed it to the Distressed Kit Auction. So was the chassis. But since I'm building this car, I'll show it with the caveat that it was NOT built by me!

Next, I had already painted the body with the basecoat of Gold. I plan on makiing this model with Candy Apple Red over the basecoat with Gloss Black fenders. The transparent Candy Apple Red will go over this next:

The Fenders are shown here painted with a Gloss Black. I also positioned the body on top of the fenders:

There you go. I should be getting more progress done on this soon. I'll post more pics when I do.
