Primer Coat

New to hobby, I'll be painting with a pache double action airbrush.
Painting roll bars on a NASCAR interior.
Wondering if it's ok to use a flat paint as a primer if the final coat is going to be a gloss?

It's totally fine.  You should check out Alex' article on getting a perfect paint job:

This Tamiya article also gives some good technical info on finishes:

Good luck!

It's fine in most case. The only problem is flast paint cover usually less than Primer. So if your body is black and you want to paint it white, yellow or any light color, you will NEED primer.

Since you are new to the hobby, you should take a look at ScaleWiki. Mainly the FAQ

Good luck
