Nice tips... I do similar.

I also paint the bottom of the master cylinder silver or steel. Once dry I go over the whole thing with a black wash. It gives the bottom that dark silver look like those cast replacement parts and tones down the bright shine of the cap for a more aged look (but not too dark LOL).

Or the custom approach - black master cylinder and chrome cap.

Sorry I first missed this thread and then had to think about how I do it.

Oh oh... sign of getting old?  Shock [:O]

Nah... I'll blame it on my meds.  Wink [;)]

Paint it silver first, then drybrush with brass.  Works every time.

Thanks!  I haven't tried mixing in silver.  I'll try it and get back to you.

I think I understand what you are looking for. Have you ever tried mixing in a touch of silver and a little bit of gold to the brass for a brighter color? Maybe you could also try to lighten the gold with some white paint and see if that helps?

I CAN'T RECREATE THE COLOR I NEED...

I've seen some brake master cylinders, and some carbs, painted in what I believe is a cross between gold and brass.  After many experiments, I still cannot recreate it.

Please tell me how to recreate this color.

Thanks!
