Color for 350Z
Posted by 280ZX on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 8:43 PM
I am working on a Tamiya 350Z. I want to paint it Nissan color LeMans Sunset A17. What model paint would be a close match to this?

Hi,

I never did find a suitable colour for the 350Z to replicate le mans sunset orange. Whatever I tried just didn't look right.

In the end, I went and bought some plastic safe lacquer primer, both grey and white, give a coat of grey and then white primer, and then used dupli colour le mans orange. It's automotive paint, so it is hot lacquer hence why I needed to use a good lacquer primer to seal the plastic, to stop the automotive dupli colour melting the plastic, and doing all kinda strange stuff.

you can see the result from here if you like -

There is none. What I did is going to a car shop and I asked a spraycan of that color (Nisan A17)

Costed me $20, but it was worth it.

Here is 2 exemples: (take a look at my Web Gallery if you want more)

mickbench, your model is nice, but the color isn't that accurate to Nissan A17.

Vric,

It is A17, my pictures were taken with a rubbish compact camera, inside without any lighting to help bring the colour out. When viewed by eye, it's pretty much Nissan A17. My 350Z looks pretty much like your examples.

If you look at my picture, I've got a blue tint. The background is meant to be white, like yours but it's not. Hence, the "off" colour match you have mentioned.

Thanks for the comments though. I really should buy or setup some type of photo booth.
