Convertable 57
Posted by modelbuilder on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 8:20 PM
Hi all, a friend of mine asked me today if I knew of a kit or conversion of a 1957 Chevy convertable. I have never seen one, have any of you guys?

I have the AMT pro shop 57. It has Bare Metal Foil and PE parts in it. It is a 2-door hard top, but I'm going to cut the top off and scratchbuild a boot.

Funny you mention this build.  I have been thinking of doing the same build.  A friend gave me the up top and the boot from the Revell '55 Chev Conv that I am going to try and  use it on a '57 AMT or Revell kit.  Have not tried the fit yet.  I did hold the top up to an AMT 55 Chev 2dr Post and the rear section of the top at the C pillars was way to narrow for that kit.  Hope it fits better on the 57 Chev kits.

^ are you trying to build a top-up 57 convertible?

I think I'll make the boot from tissue and white glue.

Yes, my first choice would be the top up version.  If not I will build the top down version.

Is the Revell '55 Convertable still available? How would you go about scratch building the boot?

I don't think the Revell 55 Chevy Convert is still available.  But I have seen them on eBay, not too expensive.  A friend of mine sent me booth the uptop and the boot.  Don't know which I will build yet.  Depends on how the top fits the 57.  I am a little lazy, I would not make the boot, just look around a find one that would fit.

I've stumbled across a '57 Bel Air convertible with top-down. I 'think' there was a '55 version out there also. Just can't remember which site I spotted them at now.

I was thinking about ordering them, so the price must have been reasonable.  Wink [;)]

Jim

Where did you spot the convertable '57? That is what my friend is looking for.

There lies the problem, I can't remember where... it's been awhile. Blush [:I]
I frequent a few sites in search of hard to find kits or kits to complete my collection.

Here's my usual sites that I visit on a more regular basis.

Model Roundup On-Line
Hobby Heaven
Model Express
Great Models Webstore
Hobbylink Hobbies

The stock and/or status at a few of the above sites change sometimes weekly (such as at Model Roundup & Hobby Heaven), so keep an eye on them.

Sorry I couldn't be of better help.
