1963 Mercury Monterey
Posted by TB6088 on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 1:47 AM

For very personal reasons, I want to build a diorama featuring a 1963 Mercury Monterey, but so far I haven't even been able to determine if anyone ever made such a kit.  I keep thinking someone must have --- it was such a beautiful beast with that reverse angle power rear window (capable of accomodating a 10' longboard stuffed under the front dash), queen size bench seats, and a trunk that would hold my compact car--- I just can't believe someone didn't want that on their shelf.  Anyway, if anybody knows the whereabouts of such a kit, let me know 'cause I want it!  THANKS.

Thank you Aaron!  I was beginning to wonder if anyone ever made this one.  I can't tell from the website what scale these are, but I'm assuming 1:24.  The model I'm looking for is the 4-door Breezeway version but the description of the kit says it can "easily" be converted to the 4-door model (I'm hoping they can give me some hint as how to go about that).  I've never done a resin kit before, but if that's the only kind available I'm up for it.    Again, thanks for the tip!

Glad I could help.

I haven't bought anything from MCM but he has a good reputation from other who have. I understand the information provided with the kits is very good.

Resin is a little different from styrene but you have to start somewhere Smile [:)]

It is more brittle and you have to use CA (super glue) since regular model glue doesn't work. The dust is somewhat toxic so it is recommended you use a filter mask, I try to do any sanding / cutting outside so I don't fill my work area with the dust. Some resin requires alot of prep work (flash etc) but most of the higher end stuff is pretty clean, I'm guessing these fall into that catagory from what I've heard. The caster is a modeler and even frequests some of the model car sites so I would think if you emailed him he would answer any questions you might have.

Good luck, resin is a little scary at first since its expensive but it opens up a lot of new options.
