1/43 Formula 1 Drivers helmet and suit decals
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 9:22 AM

Hi all.

First post and I am looking for info on painting and decalling Formula 1 drivers in 1/43. I have recently received a Denizen catalogue from Grand Prix Models in UK, listing many variations of driver figures and I would like to do some to compliment my F1 1/43 collection.

In particular has any one ever tried doing helmet decals. Tameo have done some, eg for the 1992/93 Williams FW14b and FW15, but I have not seen any others available.

Thanks

You may do better with this query on a specialist forum

Why not try posting an email to
modelcars43scale@yahoogroups.com
A lot of the members do 1/43 F1 models and they are a very knowledgeable lot - I'm sure someone will help you there.

Good luck
Martin

I've just had a quick mail from a wellknown seller of 1:43 cars (as not to advertise!) and officially there doesn't seem to be around. He said you can basically "hint around" or do some painting - at that scale most details regarding eg. suit decals are lost.

I don't know whether you can/want to contact your local Tameo agent. Some of the cars have the driver figures included, with their decals obviously - I just got one of those. Therefore if you know that the driver you want was in one of those kits, maybe those decals can be ordered.

Good luck! And if you do manage to get an alternative source, please be kind enough and tell us about it.

thanks SeaBee,
but that is my point. 1/43 scale is fine but it's there. Denizen recommend a blob of paint to resemble the motif. Can you imagine putting 1/43 decals on a car that were a blob of paint. I sure can't.
Tameo did put out some models with driver figures and helmet decals. The decals were a piece of cake to apply and looked great. (I posted a link to my Williams cars but I don't know where it went). I have only got a few cars to get, to finish my 1 car/year World Champions collection and would like to add drivers to the cars that do not have drivers and as much as Minichamps and hotwheels try, they do not compare with the precision and accuracy of  todays white metal kits.

To be blunt, IMO very few compare with the likes of Tameo! I am on my first 1:43 and think most 1:20 manufacturers can learn from him!

UInfortunately could not open your website, looking forward to see some of your kits.

Hi - I see you got plenty of replies on the yahoo group forum (not all of them helpful either).

Just a thought but have you checked some of the links on the Amazing 43 website
www.amazing43.com

Also Gp Models have over 40 pages of 1/43 decals - obviously I haven't been through all of them but there may be something there.

Hello;  micro felt pens in various colors are great for "painting"  lettering, logos and stripes on figures. check out your local "art supplies" store.  Write the lettering on. works great on 1/24.
