Newbie to motorcycles with a question
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 3, 2006 5:23 PM

Hey all,

I noticed that Italeri has several 1/6 scale racing bikes in their new catalog and was wondering if they are descent kits? I mean with the price tag I'd like a pretty good kit. The one I'm eyeing is the RC211V Telefonica Moviestar from the 2004 season. Any input will be appreciated.

If you are very good at scratch building and filling seams than the kits are okay.  In my opinion the detail is low and they do not fit together well.  It may be that I have been spoiled by Tamiya.  It also may be that my scratch building sucks and my seam filling is less than desirable.  I personally will stay away from Italeri until they improve thier quality or I improve my building skills.  I do however like thier decals a little better than Tamiyas.  They seem to go on easier and tend not to tear as easily.

Hope this helps!

The 2 tamiya bikes I've done so far have turned out pretty nice straight out of the box. I hate to hear that about the big 1/6th scale italeri kits you'd think they could get their act together in a scale that large. I was looking forward to doing the big Telefonica bike it looks way cool.

Thanks for the info guys.

The easiest example I can give about the level of detail is that the Tamiya RC211V kit has somewhere aound 23 peices for the engine.  The Italeri one has about 6 or seven.  There are a few guys in the production bike group build who are doing some Italeri kits.  I think one of them gave a review on it as well.
