Honda CB750F

I know Tamiya made a Honda CB750F in 1/12 scale - actually, it's still in their current catalogue - kit number 14006.....have a look at Tamiya America website on the following URL

The stripes on the tank and side covers were actually self adhesive stickers (very difficult to apply), they were applied and usually clear coated to protect them. I had a friend who's dad had a CB900 Bol D'or - basically the same as the CB750F but with a bigger engine capacity.
If you want some serious reference material I can arrange for my local Technical Bookstore to get a Haynes Workshop manual - they are made for people who own one and want to do major service work on them - they have pictures of everything on the bike - even the insides of the engine and gearbox (probably not needed for a 1/12 scale bike) - email me if you want me to call them to see if the book is available, and for how much -

The reason I need some good pictures and reference is because I'm building Tamiya's 1/6 1981 Honda CB750F (16020). I want to find out what paintings was done so I can choose my favorite. The kit instructions only provided 3 colors, but I saw some other colors on the internet. Also, I want to paint it with automotive paint with the exact color the factory used. So basically I only need paint schemes.

One more question, do any of you know if the Honda CB750F (or any motorcycle from that period) comes with factory supplied emblem for the fuel tank. Or is it a decal?

I thought the fuel tank emblem is always supplied with the motorcycle, or do you have to buy it seperately and put it on yourself?

The 1981 Honda CB750F was imported into Australia in 4 different color schemes -
1. Honda color code R-107C-U Candy Bourgogne Red
2. " " " " NH1 Black
3. " " " " NH110M-U Magnum Silver Metallic
4. " " " " NH111 Cortina White
You'll need to check with a Honda Dealer for the color of the decals that went with each particular color scheme.
I've no idea what colors would have been on the CB750F bikes that were exported to your country from Japan - you'll need th check with the spare parts section at the dealership - they have all that info on microfiche.

leemitcheltree, thanks. but do you also know anything about the emblem on the fuel tank and the side covers? Are they just a flat decal or are they a solid metal/plastic emblem?

I don't honestly know if the side covers had decals or cast plastic or metal emblems...............

The full sized decals on the tank are a real bitch to put on, apparently. They're self advesive and take some skill to apply correctly.
But for the side covers, I can't say. I'd try and see if a motorcycle wreckers have any old CB750F bits you can have a look at. Take the model in with you when you visit them and I'm pretty sure they'll be more helpful than if you didn't bring it in.

There was one question that was asked before and not really answered (I think).
Some motorcycles had hard emblems on their tanks and not just decals.
I know 'cause I owned one that did (and still own one for that matter).
Hope this answers your question.

I want to make my model with a solid hard emblem rather than a decal (for the fuel tank). They seemed more appropriate for bikes of that period, and I like the looks better. I've also seen some real pics of CB750F on website that has solid emblem. (the 3D kind that rises up slightly from the fuel tank). The flat decal seems more appropriate for modern race bikes.

The picture on the Tamiya site has a decal on the fuel tank because that's what the tamiya kit provides. But even on cars, where the front emblem is obviously solid metal, kits always provide a decal for it, which doesn't quite satisfy me.

I want to scratch build my own solid emblem for my 1/6 motorcycle.

The CB750F and the CB900 Bol D'or (the same seat/tank) both had cleanskin tanks - that is, the tank decal WAS the Honda emblem as well as the graphics. There was no applique metal or plastic tank badge on the bike.
